The very name of this show (Father Knows Best) makes modern day critics sneer as they say "this show is an idealized version of American life in the 50's". Its time for a NEWS FLASH. In 1950 this show really did reflect the average American family complete with a mom, dad, and three kids. Dad provided the only income and the family had all they needed on an average one person income. . Mom saw her job as mother and homemaker. Actually, life was a whole lot easier back in 1952. In the first of these two episodes, the mother is wondering aloud at a magazine article she is reading about working women. Maybe this is when the whole women's movement started?
