Il pomodoro selvatico, il cui vero nome è Solanum racemigerum arriva dal Sudamerica occidentale.È stato portato nell’America centrale e coltivato dai Maya che sviluppano il tipo più grande di pomodoro che conosciamo ancora oggi. Gli Aztechi lo coltivano poi nelle regioni meridionali del Messico.
