Oakley Hall's western epic Warlock examines deep messages and themes with the backdrop of the American Old West. When the citizens of Warlock feel as if their voice isn't being heard so that they can properly protect themselves, they form a committee to take matters into their own hands. The committee hires the larger than life figure of Clay Blaisedell who comes to Warlock with his friend Tom Morgan and acquaintance Kate Dollar. Blaisedell's first task is to get rid of the nuisance of the McCowan gang. During the events of the book, Bud Gannon is trying to seek redemption from not only the people of Warlock, but for himself, from his past crimes while he rode with the McCowan gang. Hall uses his novel to examine redemption, reputation, and doing what is right.
