Financial literacy varies among orthopaedic surgeons in all stages of their career. They are often faced with significant student debt burden and may struggle to navigate the litany of financial advice. Moreover, few training programs provide education on financial planning which can ultimately lead to poor personal financial decisions including a lack of savings or difficulty adjusting to a drastic salary increase post-training. In this episode, we are joined by James M. Dahle, MD, FACEP, a practicing emergency medicine physician and founder of The White Coat Investor for advice on personal finances, investing, and retirement planning for surgeons balancing residency training and early clinical practice.
