Memphis Depay is a Dutch professional footballer who plays for the Netherlands national team. He previously played for PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United, and now captains French club, Olympique Lyonnais. Considering a youth full of aggression and fear, everyone has an opinion about Memphis and he is often misunderstood. He walks Anas through intimate details of his childhood and praises his mother for raising him as a single parent considering he was a ‘troubled child’. Even in adulthood, why is he often the target of criticism and judgment? Memphis talks about how his mother was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, how a life coach saved his life and how his experiences thus far have taught him to give love to people now more than ever. In this Chapter, we learn about a man who is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone, a man who treasures his inner circle of friends, and has started to appreciate himself again after enduring very dark moments throughout his life. Together with Anas, we discover a calm, yet ‘damaged’, Memphis; a human being whose ‘scars’ are proof of growth and maturity.
