Il Castello Maniace rappresenta il periodo svevo di Siracusa. La fortificazione fu costruita nel 1200 sulla punta estrema dell’isola di Ortigia dall'Imperatore Federico II di Svevia. Doveva apparire come un edificio irraggiungibile e intimidatorio ai nemici che arrivavano dal mare, mentre molto attraente per i soldati di ritorno dalle Crociate. Entrando nel Castello Maniace e passeggiando tra le sue torri si ha un’incredibile vista sul mare che circonda la città.
