ADD Storytelling

Ep. 1 Changelings

02 Sep 2021

Description

Join your neurodivergent host, Maddie, & her cohost, Tucker, on this careening journey talking about Changeling folktales: a fairy substitute for a person that the fairies had abducted and either replaced with their own stock, or with a lump of wood. Changelings were notable for their inhuman intelligence and ability, large appetites, mischievousness, and ungovernable spirits. Many methods are used to get the "real child" back from the fairies. The conversation then turns to medical history speculation, vaccines, and autism in relation to changeling lore.  If you have any myths, stories, ghost stories, hauntings, questions, suggestions, feedback, corrections, or if you would like to become a sponsor for future episodes please email us at : [email protected] *trigger warning* : This episode contains reference to true crime events of child and domestic abuse, in relation to the myths covered.  Resources for Autistic Folks: Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) provides support, community, and public policy advocacy, by and for people on the autism spectrum. autisticadvocacy.org Autistic Women & Nonbinary Network (AWN) seeks to share information which works to build acceptance and understanding of disability, while dispelling stereotypes and misinformation which perpetuate unnecessary fears surrounding an autism diagnosis. awnnetwork.org Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) works to ensure that people with disabilities are treated as equals and are given the same decisions, choices, rights, responsibilities, and chance to speak up to empower themselves as everyone else. sabeusa.org
