HUNTERS IN A FARMER'S WORLD is a powerful episode with my friend and very special guest Thom Hartmann, an American radio personality, author, former psychotherapist, businessman, and progressive political commentator. In the ADHD world, Thom famously authored "ADD - A Different Perception") and is the creator (proposed by him in 1978, published in 1992) of the Hunter vs. Farmer hypothesis, saying AD[H]D is an expected evolutionary adaptation to hunting lifestyles. Thom proposes that these individuals have the ability of rapidly shifting their focus and external attention, and holding multiple trains of thought. This ability causes difficulties as they live and work in cultures in which "farming" — planned, predictable, organized, repetitive behaviors — is typical. Thom has also established specialized schools for children with ADHD, such as The Hunter School in Rumney, New Hampshire, which he co-founded with his wife Louise.
