Episode 425 - The AFTN Soccer Show (2020 WTF? - A Canadian Football Year In Review)
03 Jan 2021
The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and Canadian Premier League chat. 2020 is over. We made it! And as is our tradition, we kick off our first show of the new year with a look back at the year that has just past and a look ahead at what we may have in store over the next 12 months. We kick things off with a look at the Whitecaps' season, try and look at some highs after another disappointing year on the pitch, look at the players that came in and what we might see from them next season, delve into the off the pitch issues that surrounded the club, and ponder what may lie in store for 2021 in terms of performance, recruitment, and whether there will be much of a season at all after MLS invoked a force majeure clause as a final kick in the stanes to all the players. We also take a general look at the sporting landscape in Canada and after a slew of awards ponder whether the game has grown more into the mainstream this past year. Plus we look back at what was an enjoyable, but far too short, Canadian Premier League season. But where does the league go next? Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode: 08.04: Whitecaps year in review and a look ahead to 2021 46.08: The MLS season and what lies in store after force majeure invoked 58.56: Canadian Premier League year in review 85.00: Canadian soccer's rise in the general sporting landscape 97.40: Wavelength - Clement Bushay Set - Football Reggae
