Given the global shipping industry is responsible for transporting as much as 90% of world trade, the safety of its vessels is critical. The sector saw the number of reported total shipping losses of over 100GT decline again during 2019 to 41. However, while total losses declined significantly over the past year, the number of reported shipping casualties or incidents actually increased by 5% to 2,815. Capt. Andrew Kinsey, Senior Marine Risk Consultant - Allianz Risk Consulting, joins the AGCS Podcast to discuss the findings of the Safety & Shipping Review 2020, including 2019 loss data, loss trends, climate change, security issues and technological advances. (Note: A special AGCS podcast about the effect of coronavirus on the shipping industry will follow closely behind this edition).
