Marcela Sarmiento is the daughter of Colombian immigrants who, in her short life, has achieved many of her professional and personal goals. But her most sacred relationship is the one she has with her younger brother Sebastián. Sebastián was born with a disability, with down syndrome. The arrival of her brother changed her life and that of her parents. As she says, "it gave it a very specific direction." The listener may not know what down syndrome is or have never had the opportunity to interact with a person with the syndrome. Perhaps they are a little afraid of disabilities due to lack of education and want to dismantle that lack of knowledge. The interview with Marcela begins with the birth of Sebastián in Colombia and brings us to the present - in the United States. The journey (in every sense of the word) of the family from Colombia to New York was full of difficult moments, sacrifice and tears. But also, of love and happiness. Sebastián is a special being and not because he has down syndrome. Simply because of who he is.
