I've tested it, and I won't be switching from Chrome anytime soon. The main issue? It's been jailbroken within 24 hours by Pliny the Liberator, who found prompt injection vulnerabilities. I'm not comfortable importing all my passwords into Atlas until it's proven secure for at least six months. Without my password manager, using a new browser becomes a proper nightmare—constantly having to find and copy passwords manually. OpenAI's facing massive friction trying to pull people away from Chrome's 68% market share. The broader picture is that Atlas, along with competitors like Perplexity's Comet and the new Strawberry browser, represents this awkward transitional phase from search to generative AI queries. It's a bit like skeuomorphism—we're using familiar browser technology as a stopgap whilst we figure out what comes next. What's particularly cheeky is that Atlas pulls Google's search results and displays them directly in the browser, potentially with OpenAI ads on top. That feels like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Honestly, all these AI browsers feel a bit irrelevant once Google inevitably integrates Gemini directly into Chrome.
