Nascuda a Pollença el 1950, Joana Serra de Gayeta volia ser escriptora des de ben nina. Als nou anys, ja omplia quaderns sencers amb els seus poemes. Amb el temps, es convertiria en una de les millors autores de relats de la seva generació i col·laboraria amb la revista i l'editorial Cort, que dirigia el que seria el seu marit Andreu Ferrer. Després d'estudiar Filosofia i Lletres dedicaria bona part de la seva vida a la docència.
