Nascut a Maó, fill d'un militar del bàndol republicà, Pep de Vílchez (Maó, 1953) ha estat un històric militant de l'esquerra mallorquina: primer, en la clandestinitat del Partit Comunista, durant els darrers anys del franquisme; després, a Comissions Obreres i Esquerra Unida.
