Join Airwayve hosts Raven and Dorisa as they provide an overview of awake intubation covering the following topics, illustrated with a clinical case:Review of airway management and indicators of potentially difficult airwaysIndications and contraindications of awake airway managementAirway anatomy and innervationThe flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopeCorrection: in the podcast episode we use the term "flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope". A more generic, all encompassing term is "flexible bronchoscope". The initial technology of flexible bronchoscopes utilized optic fibers (hence, fiberoptic). However, with advancements in technology, most flexible bronchoscopes nowadays have a CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor, which is a chip that transmits images electronically) camera and light source at the distal tip. This removes the need for optic fibers, which are fragile and expensive to fix.
