Senate Republicans block bill to suspend debt limit and avert shutdown

President Biden’s legislative agenda enters a critical week as his bipartisan infrastructure deal hangs in the balance and a government shutdown looms after Senate Republicans blocked a House-passed bill to suspend the debt limit. Democratic leaders have struggled to strike a deal among progressives and moderates on the Senate-passed infrastructure bill. John Podesta was former President Bill Clinton’s White House chief of staff and was the campaign chairman for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential run.
