James Parsons next to me. And Jipper, you were down there in Wellington Saturday night. The Blues had a good first half.
Chapter 3: What strategies do the Chiefs use to dominate their matches?
Jeez, those canes in the second though.
I did some heavy manifesting in the pre-show, and I thought it was coming to fruition. But you just knew, even though the Blues were close, nothing was sticking. There was a lot of forced passes and a lot of errors from the Hurricanes in that first half. And they went ahead 19-14, you were like, oh, they're going to start sticking at some stage.
And you knew that there was sort of a barrage of points coming, which... you know, wasn't helped by the HA. I think, you know, the biggest issue, you know, having to manage a squad, you know how hard it is. And because of the better impact, the ability to have better impact off the bench, the Canes just ran the blues down.
But honestly, man, our Super Rugby clubs are doing a fantastic job at the halftime experience, the pre-show entertainment, post-show.
Chapter 4: What are the key match-ups to watch in the Super Rugby Final?
It's a really exciting time for this club.
It's good, I was down at the game in Hamilton and they really put on a show and you could feel it. I was picking 1-12, the moment I walked into that stadium, I switched it up. I was like, this is 13 plus boys. Brenna, I'm sorry, but this is 13 plus to the Chiefs. Here we go.
If you go on the other side in the first half, when you're looking at the Chiefs' Vista Crusaders, what an absolute 30-40 minutes from the Chiefs. What was it, 45-7 at halftime and... Look, they're just skinning the cat in a lot of ways, right? Like, I think Damien McKenzie, his influences in the first six tries, their ability to be able to attack and score points when the opportunities came.
Chapter 5: How crucial is the set piece in determining the game's outcome?
And I think, you know, they kind of made the Crusaders make uncharacteristic mistakes in that first half, and they pounced on them. So you look at the Chiefs, the first half, with how they played, the Hurricanes in the second half, it was a battle of two halves, I guess, in those first two semifinal matches.
The Chiefs obviously saw something in the backfield, because a lot of those tries came from either attacking kicks in behind, a chip and chase, and then they just flooded through. So it looked like it was a tactic that they had picked up, because obviously the Crusaders' defence has really increased.
They've been a big part of their success and stuff, just not allowed teams to score points, and then under the roof they've been able to sort of chance their arm. But the kicking game, and when I say kicking game, I just think there's the attacking part that led to tries, but
Even the territory-based kicking, they just pinned the Crusaders down in their half and forced them to almost say, hey, if you want to play that style that you've been doing on the roof, have a crack.
I think they had 42 kicks for over 1,000 metres. That was mixed in with attacking kicks. They loved to kick long with Damien McKenzie and using the boot to be able to get out of the exit zone area.

Chapter 6: What role does the breakdown play in the final match?
I think even Cortes and Atema as well, off their points in general inside the 22, had some really good pay making some exit spell, get out of their half and, I guess, not give opportunities inside the 22 there. for the Crusaders.
But to your point, Jip, around the attacking kicks early on, especially from Damian McKenzie, with that high line speed, as you know, if you put in those little attacking kicks, and especially if they do work and you get pay, like Kyron Tomoi-Fallal kicks it in behind and scores an individual great try, but Damian McKenzie early on to be able to stunt that defensive pressure, then you get the ability to be able to attack with what we kind of saw in that first 30, 35 minutes from the Chiefs.
But at the same time, Ho had a big... talk to that forward pack because their breakdown and their physicality work from the Chiefs kind of really set it up all nicely as well along with their set piece and no doubt we'll talk about that going forward in the Hurricanes battle but their set piece has been a big part of why they've been so successful this year as well.
I was actually on the breakdown and Goldie was like there's no way this game will be dictated by set piece and I was like I'm pretty sure it's going to play a pretty big part and mate the scrum and the line out against a team that you know like has been renowned for Finals time, they'll squeeze you at the set piece.
To see it go the other way, and speaking with Jared Hoyata during the week, like, man, that set piece, the focus and their desire to dominate there, it's going to be a big challenge. Like, I know the Canes have Warner Derns, but Tupo Vati, Josh Lord at line-out time are looking, you know, world-class. And then at scrum time, the back five...

Chapter 7: How do the kicking strategies differ between the two teams?
Like they are just a front rowers dream, the Chiefs back five. Like the transition of weight, the desire and hunger, the back slaps to scrum. Oh, it was pretty to see.
That's one of the interesting things about the Chiefs, right? You have this incredible set piece and then you have this territory game with an incredible transition game. So they've got these two ways that they beat you.
And how do you do that? Is controlling the breakdown. And they got lucky with a few.
Chapter 8: What predictions are made for the final score of the Super Rugby match?
I'm sure there'll be a few clips sent through the referees around how far they cleaned past the breakdown. You obviously can't go past the metre. Even if you looked at Leicester's injury, he was taken quite far past the breakdown. So I think the ref's going to have a lot of say. And the one thing I love about New Zealand rugby players, the mindset isn't about... complaining about the ref.
Like, we genuinely believe it's like a catch-pass skill set to adjust to the ref fastest and first. And I think the team that does that at the breakdown will, you know, pay big dividends. I'll tell you what, Bryn, actually, I mean, you probably won't know or care about this position, but has Ahio just put himself in, like, AB's boulder frame? Like, mate, his performance at Tidehead was...
incredible like he is he's had two big weeks i'm not sure i'm i haven't taken a deep enough look around the repeated effort stuff like dave rennie loves his props to be i suppose more like the angus tarvel um you know massive impact around the field as well as scrummaging line out but I'm sure Jace Ryan would have been licking his lips seeing that body shake at scrum time.
They smashed them.
They absolutely smashed them. He hasn't had much game time. He's done a hell of a job coming in the last few weeks and stepping into a team that was dominating set piece. And he's almost, I feel like, especially scrum time, taking it to another level.
And if you look at both of the teams, the Hurricanes and the Chiefs on the weekend, there were nine turnovers when it came to the breakdown area for the Hurricanes and five turnovers for the Chiefs which they pretty much won their battle in those breakdown turnovers against the Crusaders and the Blues.
you know i know we're probably just going back and forth around preview previewing it but like that breakdown area jipper is just going to be so big like the collision area is just going to be mouth-watering if you're a purist and you love watching breakdowns and hitting it i think both teams are going to have their moments but what i love about both of them and especially with what i saw with the hurricanes like they're just back-to-back repeated efforts like they just keep working off the ball it's a next job it's a next task if it's a if it's a tackle it's getting up it's giving a second effort to be able to try and make their ruck messy or counter rucking off a kick like
Yeah, I think for me, more so around that area, that's just going to be a really enticing battle because both of them won them pretty convincingly on the weekend against the Blues and the Crusaders.
Now let's have a look at what makes these teams similar and what makes these teams different so you can have a true understanding heading into this game of what you're looking for here for each team to do in order to get over the line and win. Brenna, let's start with the things that are similar. And I suppose because these two teams have really spread themselves out from the rest of the pack,
