Suzie Baker - Raising the Bar (31)

Suzie Baker's paintings are full of light, color, and texture. Her paintings fill the viewer with questions, with the whole story not revealed. She seeks to evoke a response from the viewer by not filling in all the blanks. Her technique is loose, painterly, and impressionistic. Yet, she does not let one technique or style constrain her art - she experiments and pushes boundaries. The result is continuing improvement as an artist. Just as one who seeks to not only learn a new language, but also learn to express themselves more clearly, Suzie desires to seek better ways to express her response to the world around her in ever more fascinating and innovative ways. In this conversation with Suzie, she shares her thoughts and amazing experiences participating in plein air painting events. We talk about coping as artists in difficult times. Suzie is a board member of the Oil Painters of America organization. She explains the mission of OPA, and the benefits of being a member. As we talk, it is evident that community is important to her. She loves to paint with others. She loves encouraging others. She embraces the challenge of competition. She enjoys teaching and coaching other artists in her workshops.
