This includes AI systems designed for behavioral manipulation, social scoring by public authorities, and real-time remote biometric identification for law enforcement purposes. The ban is a significant step towards safeguarding citizens' rights and freedoms.But that's not all. By August 2, 2025, providers of General-Purpose AI Models, or GPAI models, will face new obligations. These models, including Large Language Models like ChatGPT, will be subject to enhanced oversight due to their potential for significant societal impact. The Act categorizes GPAI models into two categories: standard GPAI, which is subject to general obligations, and systemic-risk GPAI, which is defined by their use of computing power exceeding 10^25 Floating Point Operations during training.The EU AI Act's phased approach means that businesses operating in the EU will need to comply with different regulatory requirements at various intervals. For instance, organizations must ensure adequate AI literacy among employees involved in the use and deployment of AI systems starting February 2, 2025.
