Is is now four years since the presidential election of 2020 in Belarus, after which hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee due to imminent political persecution, thousands of people were persecuted, beaten, and/or detained for up to 20 years, and over a dozen people died either during the protests or in imprisonment.If you do not know much about this country and wonder how it came to this point, this presentation from 13th of April 2024 gives a general picture of Belarusian social and historical context in myths and questions.Our special guest was Dzmitry Paturemski,Turku-based human rights activist from Belarus focusing his effort on support of political prisoners. In Turku, Dzmitry organises monthly "Belarus(i)an talks", where he tries to make Belarus more understandable from different perspectives, raised donations for oppressed Belarusians and manages workshops of solidarity letters for political prisoners.
