Why have US social movements gotten so much more confrontational in recent years? What is it that political violence says in protests that went unsaid for so long? What is it about "nonviolence" that seemed common sense for decades, that now seems outdated for younger movement participants? After five years of research, involving dozens of interviews, participation, and readings into the histories of nonviolence and riots, author Shon Meckfessel presented his ideas about "the rhetoric of riots," the power and limitations of nonviolence, and the future of movement approaches in the current moment of shifts to the right, in Kupoli 26th of August 2017.
