Ballroom State of Mind

34. Be Willing to Be Bad

09 Nov 2022

Description

So many of us don't want to look bad. It makes sense. None of us want to feel embarrassed or look silly. We don't want people to judge us or think less of us. But when it comes to dancing, if you are willing to look bad, you will suddenly find yourself getting very good very quickly.  When you avoid looking bad, you will avoid situations where people will see you stumbling or faltering.  This will include practicing any time other people might be around. This also might include things like group classes or workshops or even competitions. Notice how when you don't want to look bad, you deny yourself opportunities to get better. It doesn't mean you WON'T get good, but consider all you are missing out on when you avoid these types of situations. If you can make peace with being bad, you will let yourself be seen. I'm not going to lie, it will be uncomfortable. Especially at first. And we hate feeling uncomfortable. But if you are willing to look bad, you will let yourself be in rooms where everyone else is better than you. This is actually good. If you are in a room where everyone else seems better than you, then you have SO much to learn from them. You have so much growth you can accomplish and your mentors are right in front of you. What if you decided you were going to be the most improved dancer? What if you embraced being new or bad or behind and just let that be while you worked your butt off no matter how uncomfortable it made you? Can you see how your progress would skyrocket if you did this?  Be willing to be bad so you can be good. Trust me on this.
