Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Yeah, there should be some passion. This doesn't have to be boring. You don't get bored by baseball. Okay, one thing the game needs is more people like you. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. So tell me how it came about because it was a process, right?
Chapter 2: How did Greg Weissert land on Team Italy?
Yeah, it was definitely a process. My buddy that I played, I came up with the Yankees, Ron Marinaccio. He was going to play in the last one, and I guess whoever he contacted, he got in touch with. and told them to reach out to me that I was interested in playing. And so they reached out. I forget who it was exactly.
So I started talking to them last year, kind of starting the process and getting them all the paperwork and everything they needed. But you had to get the paperwork, right? Yeah. How was that? My parents spent a good amount of time in my grandparents' basement scanning, 40 documents. I don't know what it was. It was a lot. Marriage certificates, all types of stuff.
So just to clarify, was your grandparents from Italy? Well, my grandma was 100% Italian, but it was her parents, I believe. Okay. But she's a hundred percent Italian. Yeah, she came from Italy at some point at some point Yeah, her family came from Italy when when so when you started the process, did you feel like? Like there was a good chance like this had maybe I don't know.
I I had no idea what to expect honestly there's I didn't really know how the process worked. I was just interested, so they reached out and I kinda did whatever I could. Sent them whatever I could that I had and was just hoping for the best.
Chapter 3: What challenges did Greg face in the paperwork process?
You get that midnight text from Ned Colletti? Oh, I know it's from Adam Modavino. He like woke up in the middle of the night and he had the group text from Nick Kalani saying, congratulations with the hype video from Pascantino. Oh, yeah. I got the video from Pascantino in the group chat, but it wasn't at midnight. Oh, all right. Well, he just woke up to it. Yeah, yeah. He's old.
He went to bed early. He went to bed early. Yeah. But this is the last thing. So when you, obviously, like when you're going through, there's a lot of formal from people. Yeah. Like, especially last year, like, oh, man, that would be awesome. Yeah. What was your what was your thoughts like watching it last year and was immediately, man, I'm going to try to find a way to play in that next year?
Yeah, it was it was insane, like especially the championship game was out of control. So it just looked like such a different experience. And I think Like when we played in the Dominican and Mexico the past couple of years before the season started, it's been like a it's been kind of nice. It's like a little bit of a different brand of baseball than like big league ball.
There's just noise going on all the time, just like a different environment. And that's everybody I talk to.
Chapter 4: What was Greg's family background related to Italy?
It's kind of seems like what it's going to be. But It's going to kind of be cool to play that type of baseball at the highest energy level. Where do you go? We're in Houston. So where do you leave? What's the process? Do you work out somewhere? Yeah, we're going to Arizona. Okay. I think everybody's kind of doing the same. Yeah, and then you go to Houston? And then Houston after that, yeah.
Okay, and you're ready to roll. Yeah, ready to roll.
