Chapter 1: What led Walker Buehler to join the Philadelphia Phillies?
Yeah, there should be some passion. This doesn't have to be boring.
Alright, boots on the ground in Philadelphia. Biggest series of all the DS's series. Yes, that would be the division series. That would be Phillies and Dodgers. Dodgers at Phillies. It is going to be undeniably the biggest matchup. The biggest matchup between the two best division series teams. Yep, that's it.
Chapter 2: How did Walker Buehler perform after leaving the Red Sox?
Boots to the ground. Great to talk to so many people here. Great clubhouses, great teams, ton of talent, all the above. We're going to kick things off. We're talking to a guy who's had a crazy year, an absolutely crazy year, and also is in the belly of the beast when it comes to the conversation of this division series. because he's now played for both teams, and that is Walker Buehler.
Walker Buehler is the pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies currently, yet he got the final out, in case you don't know. He got the final out of the World Series last year for the team he's going up against, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, he's played against the Dodgers a couple times. He's played against them a couple times this year in different uniforms.
Chapter 3: What challenges did Walker Buehler face during his transition?
He was with the Red Sox, and now he's with the Phillies. So we've already gone through this. We've already gone through sort of the media wave of, hey, Walker, what's it like to play against the Dodgers? That's not what we're talking about. We're talking about the here and the now. We're talking about what happened in terms of Walker Buehler going from the Red Sox to the Phillies.
Out of nowhere, then out of nowhere, finding his way. Let me give you some stats to prove it because we're all about science. Walker Bueller with the Phillies has appeared in three games. Two of them have been starts.
Chapter 4: What insights does Walker Buehler share about playing against the Dodgers?
13 and two-thirds innings. He's given up one run. One run. That would be an ERA of 0.66. And that obviously is after being let go by the Red Sox after having a 5.45 ERA. That would be 23 starts, 22. He was moved to the bullpen at the very end.
I got to imagine the Red Sox would have liked to have that version of Walker Bueller, the version that the Phillies got when the rubber met the road in the playoffs at the end of the season. If for no other reason, just to have a little bit more depth. I don't know.
Chapter 5: How does Walker Buehler feel about the upcoming Division Series?
I don't know if he would have started over Conley early in game three. I don't know. Who knows? But it would have been nice to have that option because when Lucas Giolito went down, you have to start a rookie. He did well, but still. What's done is done. Now we're looking forward. And also, it gives us the opportunity because, yes, we're in Philadelphia, and that's where Walker Bueller was.
So we get a chance to talk to him. So we're going to kick things off with Walker Bueller.
Chapter 6: What makes this Phillies team different from last year's?
And then... I'm going to give you Tanner Banks, friend of the program, Tanner Banks, who is also having a great, great year with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was on earlier this season on Baseballs and Boring. We always appreciate him having on to talk about elite mustaches and also the art of being in the bullpen in the postseason.
All right, it's a great way to kick things off the Division Series. We appreciate everybody. We appreciate everybody. The newsletter will be back on Monday, Newsletter Wigs. Yep, he's doing an awesome job. Check that out.
Chapter 7: How does Tanner Banks contribute to the Phillies' success?
So here we go. Division Series, it's getting closer. Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. Yep, it's getting closer. All right, first up, Walker Bueller. Then I'm going to give you Tanner Banks. There's no human being I'd rather be talking to than to Walker Buehler right now. That's a fact. So how are you? You good?
Chapter 8: What are the key strategies for the Phillies in the playoffs?
I mean, you feel, I mean, this is, you've been through this before. It's a little weird because, you know, you're playing the Dodgers, but this is your, this is your world. This is where you thrive.
Yeah, no, I'm excited, man. You know, as it kind of sits as I've been here, you know, whatever I can do to contribute and, you know, try and be a part of this thing. So, you know, we're looking forward to it.
This is a cliche question, but what is the thing for you that sort of clicked in? I remember when we were here earlier in the year, you had just come back from the All-Star game and you had a great outing. But was there anything that clicked in for you that, I don't know, in the last month or so?
Yeah, I mean, I think it's all still kind of building towards the same goal. And I talked to her whether it was good or bad. In Boston, it feels like I'm getting closer. At least I have a clear idea of what I'm... and trying to change. And so, um, you know, kind of continuing on that path, obviously, you know, Bales and I kind of found some stuff in Boston that we thought would help.
And, you know, for a second, you know, glimpse of the time it did against here. And, and then, um, you know, in San Diego was probably the best I threw the ball, but, um, yeah, I mean, just think, you know, continually trying to work towards whatever that, that one image of, of what I want to be is. And, Caleb has been great in terms of, you know, being able to talk through it in a different way.
And, you know, I mean, the stuff still isn't what it was or what I want it to be. But, you know, I've been able to kind of battle and make some pitches in some spots that I wasn't able to do most of the year. So definitely some improvement that way.
Was there a clouds parting moment? In other words, like you said, there were times where you're like, OK. I see it there. I see it here. And then they're like, okay, he's going the other way. But was there a clouds parting moments? Cause sometimes that happens, right? Was there that moment for you?
No, you know what I think? I don't think that stuff really gets set in stone until the off season. Right. So, you know, last year I had a good run at the end of the month and, um, you know, I actually came into spring training with kind of that same picture of the end of the year and, and feeling good about it. And, um,
At some point, I think the shoulder thing that I had early in the year really put me in kind of a bad spot. It just made it hard to kind of keep that stuff in zone, and you kind of redevelop bad habits that you got out of, and the waters just get really murky. And so right now, I feel like I'm on kind of the right trajectory or lane or however you want to think about it.
