This week, Kate discusses the world of dating advice, both interpersonal and professional, from the books she read in her single days like Why Men Love Bitches, He’s Just Not That Into You, and other best-sellers like Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man or The Rules. She also discusses the confusing nature of casual advice we give our peers and loved ones that can be grounded in anecdote despite being delivered as gospel, causing us to weigh the subjective input of others far too heavily on important matters that impact our personal lives. She also discusses how sociopolitical climates influence generational beliefs about relationships and marriage, and how those tropes and cliches taught to young people infiltrate current generations with irrelevant advice about gender roles that deserve a great deal of nuance and free will to be applied to your circumstances (e.g. why buy the cow).
