"Oral care is extremely important, especially the routine check-up of your gums and the periodontium because beneath the gums we find the structure of our tooth. We have a crown and a root, but this root is within a bone, and this bone is surrounded by gums. When we do not clean our teeth well, do not have a good brushing technique, or lack proper cleaning tools, food residues start to accumulate which then calcify into what is known as dental calculus. As you might observe, this dental calculus gradually causes the loss of bone and the gums become inflamed and bleed. The tooth then begins to expose the root and with it, the tooth becomes mobile. A mobile tooth is highly susceptible to tooth loss, and at this point, it is very likely that the tooth will be lost. For this reason, it is crucial that we prevent tooth loss as much as possible. Dental treatment aims to preserve a tooth for as long as possible because nothing replaces a tooth; not an implant, nor any other procedure like a bridge that places a missing tooth through what would be the bridge, the pontic, or the artificial tooth. These do not replace the tooth. So, the idea is to try to preserve the tooth in the mouth for as long as possible. Remember, I am dedicated, and dentistry is more than just teeth."
