After moving to New York from Barbados, Cheryl-Lyn reflects on the differences in discipline, tracking programs (and access to gifted classes), and how her grandfather's love for knowledge led her to begin a career in education. We are discussing: - the experiences of traveling across town to go to school - the trust and freedom to explore as a child - working with Immigrant families as an ESL teacher (and "trusting the system") - setting high expectations for excellence - breaking barriers and navigating spaces Cheryl-Lyn's observations and experiences led her to law school, so that she could become an empathetic advocate and knowledgeable resource for all families navigating the educational system and women navigating the workplace.
