“If you invest in your community, you automatically invest in yourself.” Mr. Demetrius Heard, Music Teacher (K-8) Mr. Demetrius Heard's Youtube Channel “It was THAT powerful… people are still talking about it… I can go on and on talking about the work that my kids do.” Once Mr. Demetrius Heard recognized that he had the same presence as his father and grandfather, and reflected on the impact his Black educators made on him as a student, he realized the true power of connection and representation in education. As part of the 1% of Black male educators in Chicago, Demetrius shares his story and what led him to combine his musical gifts and community connection to pursue a career in education. #Shoutout to the Alternative Teacher Training Programs!
