News when you want it with Bloomberg News Now. I'm Karen Moscow and stocks are mixed at the open at the start of a holiday-shortened trading week. Artificial intelligence concerns continue to put a damper on sentiment. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is higher, though, up about two-tenths of a percent. S&P 500 down about two-tenths of a percent and the Nasdaq's down half percent.
Ten-year Treasury yield at 4.05%. Oil edging lower on signs that the U.S. and Iran have made progress in nuclear talks, eroding a risk premium and benchmark futures prices. West Texas intermediate crude fell below $63 a barrel after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arigachi said that the two countries had serious constructive talks and reached a general agreement on a set of principles.
The development erased earlier gains after Iran said it would shut parts of the Strait of Hormuz for military drills. Shares of Warner Bros. Discovery higher up 2.8%. It's agreed to reopen negotiations with rival Hollywood studio Paramount Skydance after the suitor proposed raising its bid and sweetened other terms of its offer. We get details with Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow.
It's a seven-day waiver through February 23rd. The waiver comes from Netflix to Warner Brothers Discovery so that they can review any updated Paramount bid. Our understanding is that one of the Paramount bankers went to Warner Brothers Discovery's board and said that Paramount would be willing to go up at a minimum to $31 a share, an increase of $1.
Remember, they want to buy the entire thing, and we can get into the other specifics. but they have seven days to do something and like the indication from the reporting is that uh you know paramount has not yet made its final offer And that's Bloomberg's Ed Ludlow.
Now, Warner Brothers said the board still unanimously recommends shareholders vote in favor of its binding agreement to sell its namesake studios and HBO Max streaming business to Netflix for $27.75 a share or $72 billion. Now to our other top story this morning, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, a protege of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
and two-time presidential candidate, has died at the age of 84. Begin more with Bloomberg's Zach Cohen. He died Tuesday surrounded by his family, according to CBS, citing a statement from the family. He did disclose in 2017 that he had Parkinson's disease. And while he was something of an acolyte of Martin Luther King Jr., never really sort of formally took on that title.
But his work in founding the Rainbow Push Coalition, especially a nonprofit organization that sought political and economic power for minorities, as I mentioned, really galvanized support for the working poor of all colors across the country.

So there certainly has been an increase of the cadence of these sort of negotiations.
That being said, again, you listen to Marco Rubio while he's been in Munich, while he's been in Budapest over the last couple of days. He's basically saying, some days I feel better about it than others, but at the end of the day, you know, I'm not really in a position to say whether or not we're any closer to a resolution for this war. While there's more fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein files, Hyatt Hotel's executive chairman, Tom Pritzker, says he's retiring from the company and will not stand for re-election to its board, saying he exercised terrible judgment in maintaining contact with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell after his 2008 plea deal on sex crimes charges.
The files, along with emails from Epstein's Yahoo account, also show the disgraced financier described himself as a Davos concierge and helped his friends and associates navigate the World Economic Forum. Those emails include conversations with WEF President Borga Brenda. Brenda says she had been completely unaware of Epstein's crimes.
Investigators working on the disappearance of today's show host Savannah Guthrie's mother are consulting with Walmart management to develop leads. That's because a backpack the suspect was wearing is sold exclusively at Walmart stores. Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her Arizona home on January 31st and was reported missing the following day.
A shooting during a Rhode Island youth hockey game has left three people dead, including the shooter. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Gonsalves says that three more victims remain hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities say they believe the shooting was a targeted attack stemming from a family dispute.
Gonsalves identified the shooter as Robert Dorgan, who she said also went by the name of Roberta Esposito.
