Stephen Alter is a distinguished writer of fiction and non-fiction books. He lives in Mussoorie, where he also founded the Mussoorie Mountain Festival. He has written more than 20 books, many of them on the Himalaya mountains. Some of his books are ‘Becoming a Mountain: Himalayan journeys in search of the sacred and sublime’, which is a memoir, ‘Wild Himalaya’, and ‘All the Way to Heaven: An American Boyhood in the Himalayas’. Among the many novels he has written, is ‘In the Jungles of the Night’, which is a fictional account on the life of Jim Corbett. Here Stephen decodes the life and times of Jim Corbett and discusses his legacy. Jim Corbett was born in India and remains one of the most enigmatic personalities for conservationists and nature lovers. He wrote many books based on his adventures, which created a new genre of writing. His book ‘Maneaters of Kumaon’ has sold more than 3.5 million copies.
