only on ESPN and the ESPN app. Can't get enough of the fan in the morning? Shown up. Because this is nothing like that. Twerking. Al and Jerry are here with stories they'd never get to cover on the morning show. Very sexy robot. Hey, look at that pig. Shenanigans. Naked yoga.
Chapter 2: What upcoming sports events are highlighted?
My mother had a bad experience with these ghosts. Let's hump the fence. It's Al and Jerry's Post Game Podcast. All right. Got you, Eddie. Away we go on a Monday podcast. Oh, what's happened? By the way, I like the hoodie from the bookshop. Very cute. Very nice.
Chapter 3: What led Al to return to the gym after years?
Oh, hi there, Jerry. Oh, hello. I got a couple of postcards in the mail, all from the same fellow. He put them in an envelope. Okay. And it's a guy I met at the bookstore. Oh, cool.
Chapter 4: How did Al's gym experience change after COVID?
Mike Torts is his name. He sent a postcard from, let's see, he went to the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Florida. Oh, cool. which is very beautiful. This is all this year? Yeah, he just went on a trip, I guess. Yeah.
He said, Alan Jerry, I don't think there's a much better way to start my day than hearing your ABS discussion, that's the automatic ball strikes, followed by graffiti penises at the new Bill's Stadium, all while walking down Tampa Bay with a Starbucks. Okay, and then he drew a picture of a penis when he signed his name, and he said, did I draw it right? Oh, boy.
No, he's got the penis like a rocket. It's supposed to be sideways. Right, with little strands of hair. He did put the three ball hairs. Oh, he did, okay. But he also made the tip of the penis... Where normally it's just one long, there's no tip drawn. This is too precise. Yeah, it's too precise. Okay.
Then he's sent from the Phillies to do spring training in Clearwater, which is very close to Dunedin. Yeah. Okay, that one was there. And then he went to JetBlue Park. All right, so the Red Sox play in, oh, don't tell me. God damn it, I know this too. What town? Lee County, Florida, it says. Oh, but that's not the town I'm thinking of. Looks like a pretty nice ballpark.
Yeah, well, they have the fake green monster. Now, it's funny because if he did a trip like that where he was driving around. Yeah. I lived in that area for seven years, and I never heard of the town where the Red Sox are playing. Well, that's also Lee County. That's not the town. They're in Fort Myers. Oh, Fort Myers. Okay, that's drivable.
He also said, I highly recommend doing a spring training trip one day. I know. Next year I'm doing it. I have to. But, you know, it's like I love the Mets. But I don't want to go to Port St. Lucie because it's just the Mets. There's a lot to do there now.

Chapter 5: What workout routine did Al follow on his return?
There is. Oh, God. Port St. Lucie is built up now to where this is not like when my dad took me 30 years ago now or longer than that, 32 or 33 years ago. It was you stayed at a hotel a couple of blocks from the stadium. You went to the game. Maybe you found an Applebee's or something. There wasn't much to do. When we went to Port St.
Lucie to play golf last summer, or two years ago, I'm sorry, I could not get over the amount of restaurants, shopping centers, bars. There's a Tiger Woods outdoor miniature golf, but it's like real mini golf. I mean, it's pretty neat, really built up. Do you have to rent a car? Oh, yeah, yeah. Because they're all kind of spread out. Oh, for sure. Yeah. Yeah, you're renting a car.
I mean, you could take Ubers, I suppose, everywhere. But you're renting a car. You also have the Nationals. I don't know if they still do play in a bordering town. It's not far from where the Mets play. But you're right. There's not a lot of teams. I think the Marlins train in Miami, which seems boring. but the Yankees are in Tampa. I'd have to look at a map.
There's a collection of teams that you could go see. Yeah. It's a nice little thing to do. It's fun. If you like baseball and you really don't care about wins and losses, it doesn't matter, but getting away from the Northeast. And you want to get a couple beers, a couple hot dogs. I'm telling you, when my dad took me, it was a great three days. It really was. How many days is too long? Four.
Four days. Unless you're playing golf. If you're just going for baseball, I think three full days, like you arrive on like a Thursday night and you're there Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and you get out Monday morning, it's perfect. I think that's a good trip. Or you go Wednesday night and you're out Sunday morning. Yeah. I think that's a good trip.
And you can see if you're really a baseball nut, like you could plan it where you get four games in, where you do an afternoon game and a night game in the same day. But it's, you know, whatever you want to do.

Chapter 6: How does Al feel about his physical changes after returning to the gym?
And if you get good weather, it's tremendous. Oh, yeah. I contemplated taking off one of the Rutgers games down the stretch here to do that. The problem was the airfare was crazy expensive for the days I wanted to go. Where do you fly in for in Port St. Lucie? You could go to West Palm or Fort Lauderdale.
One's a little farther than the other, obviously, but they're both within an hour and a half or so of the two. Hell, you could fly into Orlando if you wanted. That's a couple hours, maybe two and a half hours. But I would fly into Fort Lauderdale or West Palm. I think we flew into West Palm last year when we went to Port St. Lucie. I can't remember, but yeah. Fun trip.
Why don't I do that one time? I don't know. You should. I actually think that's the type of baseball trip you would enjoy. I'm off this week, Thursday, Friday. Maybe I'll go. Why not? What are the chances of that? Zero? There are no chances of that. Plus, the weather's going to be good here. Yeah. Well, actually, no, by then, not. The weather, by me, is going to be good today, tomorrow.
Maybe Wednesday. Wednesday, cloudy. And then Thursday, rain. Friday, cloudy. Why don't you hop a flight to Tampa? We'll never see you again. I'm staying here, Jerry. I bought a condo. By the way, I went to, I have not, I was a regular gym goer. From the time I got to Tampa, Florida in 1994, I started going to the gym.
I was a very scrawny man as I am now, but I started going to the gym and it was cool because I would go to the Gold's Gym there, but I would go in the morning like 10 a.m.

Chapter 7: What are the challenges of maintaining a workout routine?
because I was working afternoons. And all the pro wrestlers were there. Really? Yeah, which was in some ways intimidating, but they were near the free weights. And when I was first starting, I just would go to the machines. The Wuss machines? The Wuss machines, yeah. I'm just kidding, right? So it was like the road warriors were there. Wow.
Just these gigantic... I just remember definitely the road warriors were there. And so I started going to the gym. And then when COVID shut the gym down... I clearly stopped going to the gym. I moved, got a dog. A year or two later, they opened the gyms up and I was already like now walking with the dog. I was doing pushups in my house. So I didn't really go to the gym for five, six years.
So I went Friday. Really? I said, I'm going to go back to the gym. And you signed up? Well... There's a gym in Bradley Beach that is like hardcore gym. It is not for, no one's there to talk. It's real weights. Okay. They have some machines, but there are a lot, like if I were to say like, here's a gym where bouncers go to work out, this is the gym. Okay. Rarely you will see a woman walk in there.
And if she does walk in there, she's jacked. Right. So this is a crazy gym, but a couple of years ago I had bought a, they had a punch card where you could buy 10, just come to the gym 10 times. Anytime you come, you punch it never expires. Okay. So I did that. So I still had some punches left on my card. So I said, I'm going to go Friday. And then I went Saturday too.
And I had not gone to the gym in five, six years. I caught a look at myself in the mirror and I was like, wow, I am really thin. Yeah. thinner than I was when I was last at the gym. Yeah. I was like, huh. Now I know I had, you know, when you work out, you get more muscles, of course.
So it was weird going back to the gym just because you remember what weight you were, like when you would go on the machines, you remember which weight you would go do. Sure. Or when you grab the free weights, I'll grab these 30 pound. No, no, no. You were starting from square one. Oh, yeah. Now, the shocking thing is I'm not sore, which is weird because I worked out Friday night.
I'm surprised because Friday night I would have thought today you would have woke up sore. And then I worked out again. It usually takes a couple of days. I worked out again Saturday. That's interesting. Then I didn't go yesterday. And I'm not being a jackass. Did you work hard enough to be sore? Yeah, I did. What I decided to do was do a little bit of everything. Okay.
Instead of going like, today's chest day. Right, right, right. I just did like... A full body workout. Yeah, I did two different chest, two different shoulders, two different bicep, two different tricep, and squats. Okay. That's pretty good. How long were you there for? I was probably there for 45, 50 minutes. Both days? Yeah. I'm surprised you're not sore.
Because I did, I started doing, which I told you, when I was away last week with, where the hell was I with Rutgers? Michigan State. So Thursday, I watched one of these videos on you don't need the gym if you do this. If you don't have the time, don't worry about the gym, do this. And it was a hundred pushups a day. It was 70 to 75 to a hundred squats a day. And it was plank.

Chapter 8: What insights does Al share about gym memberships and costs?
I'm like, yeah, I'm good. So I got up to 125 with him spotting me. I'm like, I'm okay. I'm like, I ain't going any further than this. I'm like, I'm good at 125. But in high school, as a senior, I used to start at 135. Now I'm 30 something years later and I'm an old man, but like, yeah, it all of a sudden it feels a lot heavier than it used to. I know. Yeah. I'm so curious.
Like when does it kick in? Where, where are you? Because your body responds pretty quickly if you do something on a regular basis. Sure. And I'm so curious, because I remember when I first went to the gym in 1994, I could not, for the shoulder press on the Nautilus machine, I couldn't put a pound on it to press over my head. Yeah, that's how weak I was. Wow. And boy, you go just for...
You know, a couple weeks, if you do it consistently, how quickly your body adapts to it. I've read the magic timeline is between 21 and 25 days. If you can get there, results start happening. Like, it's slow as your body builds. You start to feel stronger, but you don't really see it. Yeah.
And I've read when you hit between 21 and 25 days of consistent work, all of a sudden, that's when the mindset shifts. Yeah. you start to see changes and you kind of take off. Most people don't get to the 21 days. That's the problem. Winter's still hanging around, but the Nationals are starting fresh. New manager, new front office, and a completely different outlook heading into the season.
The Wizards are rebuilding, young guys flashing talent, lottery talk heating up, and everybody hoping there's some light at the end of the tunnel. And once NFL free agency opens, every commander's move turns into a full-blown argument amongst the boys. That's what the Junkies do every morning. Real opinions, real debates.
Follow and listen to the Sports Junkies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Yeah, I'm curious, though. Like, I still have a couple punches on this punch card to go to this... And you're comfortable going in there? Yeah. Yeah. I don't care anymore. Like, I used to... I would say when I first went in 1994 and I walked in there, it was intimidating. Right.
Well, I only say because it's like a muscle gym. This is a muscle gym. But everyone's minding their own business. Yeah. Like, honestly, no one's looking at anybody. They're doing their work. Guys are... Many guys are posing and looking in the mirror at themselves, which is always interesting. Sure. But they want to see what's going on. You see guys videoing for social media? I haven't, no.
Really? Yeah. But I have seen it's come up on my social media, that gym, and there have been people in there. Yeah. I also went on off times as well. But there's also... And this gym is right in my town. It takes probably four minutes to get there. There's no excuse not to go. No excuse not to. There's another gym... The next closest gym is probably 12 minutes away. By car? By car. Right.
This is four minutes walking. No, this is probably four minutes by car, the one. Got it. But it's more like a gigantic gym. A box gym. More people are there. Yeah. Like a crunch fitness or a planet fitness type. Which will probably have more options for what I want to do. But this might force you into weight training, which should be better for you. A gym like this.
