Chapter 1: What does John Harbaugh say about Odell Beckham Jr.?

0.031 - 15.323 Gio

Now, I remember back when John Harbaugh was hired and Evan Tiki and Sean went down to the press conference at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center and Marash wore a suit. It was a whole big deal. It looked great. And they did this very good interview.

0

15.303 - 36.484 Gio

with John Harbaugh, they asked about Rex Ryan being the defensive coordinator, and he went into this thing about, you know, wouldn't that be great, and oh man, like I love Rex. Then you found out he had a nice long conversation with Rex, but ultimately, of course, Rex Ryan is not the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Now the reason I bring that up is the same thing happening.

0

36.464 - 55.734 Gio

Right now, where John Horrible is saying, I really like that guy, oh man, that would be great, like I did have a conversation, but there's no way in hell it was going to happen, when he says that he had a conversation with Odell Beckham Jr. about a Giants and Odell reunion. Yeah, I don't see it happening either. Yeah, me either.

0

56.817 - 78.064 Gio

So he said the obvious part of the answer would be you look at every option. If Odell's an option, we'll be looking at him for sure. He's 33 now. Of course, he hasn't played in a while. He wasn't that fantasy football. He wasn't that flag football. where he was out there and he looked okay running around playing flag football, but this to me, he said it was one of his favorite guys.

0

78.625 - 95.787 Gio

John Harbaugh said, this to me is one of those courtesy things, probably helps Odell's name get back out there and maybe another team will give him an opportunity, but I can't imagine that Odell Beckham Jr. has got enough left in the tank for John Harbaugh and the Giants to consider bringing him in?

95.807 - 108.163 Boomer Esiason

You know, depending on what happens in the draft and who they do draft is going to depend on what they're going to do with the other free agents that are still out there. You know, there are still free agents out there, and he would be one of them.

108.683 - 122.925 Boomer Esiason

If you told me he was going to come in for the veteran minimum and they give him a shot and they just look at him in training camp and see if he's got anything left in the tank, I wouldn't be surprised, depending on what happens in the draft, what do they come out of the draft with? Is it going to be a wide receiver in the second round?

122.945 - 134.106 Boomer Esiason

I mean, they're not going to put young kids in a room with Odell Beckham at this point. You know what I mean? They want to get younger. They want to get faster. They don't want to get older. They don't want to get slower.

134.39 - 151.065 Gio

Yeah, I mean, that's really the crux of it, is whatever Odell can bring you at 33 years old, post-injury, post-missing an entire year, all of the things that have gone on with him, you'll be able to find, you should be able to find.

Chapter 2: Why do the hosts believe a Giants and Odell reunion is unlikely?

175.447 - 196.115 Boomer Esiason

But I just don't see John Harbaugh going down that road. I mean, he's going to say a lot of nice things about a lot of people, but he's not going to commit to anything. And at the end of the day, he's going to have a younger, faster team. And like you said, they're going to be able to find a younger Odell Beckham, maybe not quite as – great as Odell was when he was young.

0

196.195 - 201.562 Boomer Esiason

That's who they're looking for, the next young Odell Beckham. They don't want the older Odell Beckham.

0

201.582 - 219.682 Gio

Right. But, yes, that's ultimately what they're going to want to try to find is that game-changing wide receiver. But, you know, Odell at 33, and you don't know what you're going to get, you should be able to find a younger player who – and I don't think that Odell's going to come in and be a distraction in the sense that, like, the way he was.

0

219.782 - 222.025 Boomer Esiason

Could he be Devontae Adams for the Rams?

0

222.089 - 223.27 Gio

No, I don't think so.

223.33 - 241.03 Boomer Esiason

All right, so then there's really no reason to even consider it. Do you think he could? I don't. No, I don't. I think it's a new coach. You don't want to go backwards. You want to go forwards. And I think that's exactly what they're doing. That's exactly what John Harbaugh has done over there.

241.09 - 260.922 Boomer Esiason

He's already brought a different type of attitude, a different type of seriousness, a different type of way of doing things. He brought in Donna Ponte that, you know, I guess if you're a Giant fan, you probably think that... that she's kind of the person that's running the team for John Harbaugh, while John Harbaugh's out there doing the head coaching stuff. You know what I mean?

260.943 - 278.183 Boomer Esiason

Like behind the scenes, she's working very closely with the front office, working very closely with the scouts, and are getting ready for this draft that's coming up. You know, it was interesting. I did talk to somebody yesterday that, you know, remember I was telling you the story that guys run into each other in the hallways and they start discussing things? Yeah.

278.203 - 300.371 Boomer Esiason

And, yeah, I just wanted to, like, confirm that again. And I did talk to somebody who goes, let me tell you, This happens all the time. Now, the one thing about the general manager group is that they do all respect each other and they all try to work within the framework of the league and they're not out to try to stab each other in the back because they all know how tenuous their job is.

Chapter 3: What factors influence the Giants' decision on free agents?

385.095 - 401.693 Boomer Esiason

But he's not trying to make like a Darren Muji or anybody else for that matter. You know, he's not trying to embarrass those guys. He's trying to do right by them, and they're trying to do right by him. Yeah. So, I mean, and that's – I always thought that there was a little bit more shift spotting going on.

0

401.858 - 411.136 Gio

Well, the shiv spots happen within the buildings of these places. It's like intra-shiv. Yes. It's not inter-shiv. It's intra-shiv.

0

411.156 - 430.388 Boomer Esiason

I got you. You know what I mean? Yeah. That's what you've taught me. Well, it is. It's a really strange league in that regard because everybody is, like I said, so insecure about their job security. Because, you know, you get off to a bad start, immediately fans start screaming and yelling about firing people. You know what I'd love to know?

0

430.469 - 445.587 Gio

I think I could assume what the answer would be just because of the way things have worked out. But these other GMs, when they're talking to each other, when Darren Mooji isn't around, what they're saying about what Darren Mooji has done so far, I would imagine it would be very, very positive.

0

445.727 - 469.636 Boomer Esiason

I know firsthand from talking to... Somebody within the league that everybody thinks what he has done over the last year has been nothing short of amazing. Just from his job's standpoint, maybe with the exception of the Justin Fields signing, which didn't work out for them, but I think that could have also been more the coach than the GM. The coach could have said, hey, this guy's available.

470.097 - 480.389 Boomer Esiason

He's relatively cheap. He was a pain in the ass to play against when he was in Chicago, and I was the defense coordinator in Detroit. Let's bring him in. and that's going to be the answer to our quarterback situation in the short term.

480.789 - 500.972 Boomer Esiason

Well, it turned out that it wasn't, but I kind of feel like that was more Aaron Glenn than it was Darren Mooji, and Darren Mooji trying to help Aaron Glenn get the quarterback he wanted. But I know for a fact that everybody is sitting around watching what Darren Mooji has done to this point, thinking that he gets five stars all across the board.

Chapter 4: How does the draft impact the Giants' strategy for wide receivers?

501.893 - 503.635 Boomer Esiason

And now it comes to the hard part.

0

503.615 - 516.959 Gio

Sure, and this is what's going to define him or not. Joe Douglas, I thought, was a very good general manager here, but he made the biggest misstep you could make, and that's a whiff on the quarterback position in a massive way.

0

517.279 - 542.285 Boomer Esiason

I know for a fact that the year that they drafted Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, that Joe Douglas was told... that there were two wide receivers in that draft, and he was told to draft both of them. I forget who the other top wide receiver was in that draft. Rami could check real quickly. Was it Cooper maybe?

0

542.525 - 543.686 Gio

Marvin Harrison Jr. maybe?

0

543.706 - 557.648 Boomer Esiason

No, no, no. And he ended up taking Sauce Gardner, obviously, but he was not going to take two wide receivers with two first-round picks. What was that, the 23 draft?

557.668 - 557.969 Gio

2022.

Chapter 5: What qualities are the Giants looking for in a wide receiver?

557.989 - 581.596 Gio

I want to say it was Devontae Smith, but I could be wrong. No, Devontae Smith, that was the Canarius Tony draft. There's no way it was Devontae Smith because that was when Gettleman was still. Drake London. Drake London, okay. And Chris Olave. All right, those are the two from that draft. So it was Garrett Wilson. Chris Olave and Drake London. There was another one.

0

581.717 - 593.213 Boomer Esiason

Jamison Williams. Yes, that's it. That's the one. That's the one that somebody told Joe Douglas to take both of these wide receivers, Garrett Wilson and Jamison Williams.

0

594.775 - 608.293 Boomer Esiason

I don't know if it was brick or not, but that I don't know. But cooler heads prevailed, and of course he drafted an all-pro cornerback and an all-pro wide receiver.

0

608.273 - 622.21 Gio

Yes, he did. Or a Pro Bowl wide receiver. And Darren Muji turned Sauce Gardner into two first-round picks. Which was amazing. Which is really amazing because Sauce really never duplicated his rookie season.

622.23 - 646.596 Boomer Esiason

No, he never did. And the interesting thing is I would think that Lou Anarumo out there in Annapolis probably was a huge advocate. for Sauce Gardner simply because when Lou was at the Cincinnati Bengals, I'm sure he saw a lot of University of Cincinnati football games and became very aware of how good Sauce Gardner was going to be coming out of college. Yeah, it makes sense.

646.937 - 665.449 Boomer Esiason

Yeah, so you would think that Lou Anarumo would go to Chris Ballard and say, you know, listen, we need a corner. We need a top corner. Listen, they pushed their chips in the middle of the table and went broke. That's what happened. The problem with them is they drafted Anthony Richardson, and now they're counting on Daniel Jones, who can't stay healthy.

665.986 - 682.53 Gio

Yeah, and I actually applauded both sides during that deal because the Colts were like, we've got to go for this. Why not? We've got something special going on here, and they did look like the best team in the NFL for a good four or five-week stretch. But now it looks horrible.

682.71 - 700.233 Boomer Esiason

I'm telling you right now, the fact that they got two picks and a Donnie Mitchell, to me, that's a win for Darren Moochie. And, you know, if Sauce Gardner doesn't get hurt and Daniel Jones doesn't get hurt and they go to the playoffs, that's probably going to be a win for Chris Ballard.
