Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 21.982

It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. Hi, Boomer and Geo coming to you live at the Bill Ford Tough Studio on the fan and CBS Sports Network. Red Pocket Mobile fan line brought to you by your new ultimate cell carrier, Red Pocket Mobile. That's 888-808-1019. Been talking about NFL free agency.

0

22.002 - 43.592

You can go check out the Odyssey app for the 6 o'clock open, breaking down the Jets and the Giants moves, and we still... Await the Jets quarterback that feels like a Kirk Cousins, Frank Reich, New York Jets thing. I don't know. Feels like that would be a smart thing to do where they're at with the organization. But we got to see because he hasn't been officially released.

0

43.612 - 64.075

But we know he's not going to be down there in Atlanta because Atlanta signed Tua. Yesterday, after his release, Malik Willis going to the Dolphins. I guess Jacoby Brissett is going to maybe stay with the Cardinals, so that's another option that the Jets might not have. But the next big thing now for both of these teams...

0

64.46 - 84.409

is going to be, obviously, I think the quarterback, of course, is the obvious one with the Jets, but the other one is another wide receiver for the New York Giants and where that comes from. Is that going to come in the draft? Is that going to come via a trade? It doesn't seem like it's going to come from free agency as far as a big name goes, and Mike Evans goes to the 49ers.

0

84.429 - 102.624

That was an interesting one yesterday as well, but today's not going to be as juicy as yesterday, but... We may get a Jets quarterback by the end of the week, and that would be nice to close the chapter on that. Well, they're going to need to get started because they're going to want to get the guy in there and get him familiar with the offense.

102.704 - 117.288

And, again, I still think it's going to be somebody that, you know, it's like a Ryan Fitzpatrick type who gave the Jets a chance for the two years. I think he was here for two years, right? Well, yeah, because they had the one year, and then they re-signed him, and that second year was a disaster. Right, and they gave him a pretty big contract, too, to come back.

117.428 - 121.273

It wasn't really a disaster, was it? Yeah, it wasn't great. Yeah, it was bad.

Chapter 2: What are the latest updates on Kirk Cousins and the Jets quarterback situation?

121.593 - 140.518

Remember, because it was like, you've got to re-sign him, you've got to re-sign him, you've got to re-sign him. Yeah, because they won 10-6 that first year. And then Brandon Marshall was here with him, and Eric Decker was here with him. Yeah. And I felt like there was no other option. There was no better option, and this is the type of guy that they're going to be looking for.

0

140.65 - 169.452

Yeah, let's just go back to see here. Ryan Fitzpatrick, yeah, so... Was it 10-6 and 7-9 or 10-6? No, he was 3-8 in that second year. Only started 11 games. He got hurt. Did he get hurt or did they bench him? Don't remember, but either way, it was not a smart decision to have brought him back. Didn't work out. But what was the alternative? That's what I remember talking about at that time.

0

169.753 - 189.017

What are the alternatives? What are the alternatives here? So Kyler Murray's still out there. Geno Smith is still out there. Kirk Cousins is still out there. Is there a trade in the offing with Tyson Bajan from the Bears? You know, he's still possibly available. You know, who knows? You love Tyson Bajan. But, again, why would the Bears obviously love Tyson Bajan?

0

189.057 - 206.325

Because they gave him a huge contract last year. Was it a huge contract? That was $5 million a year. Okay. I mean, but they still had Case Keenum as the backup and Bajan as the third string guy. I think they were kind of taking care of the dude. I kind of feel like it was Bajan and then Case Keenum. That's what I would think. That's what you think? That's what I would think.

0

206.345 - 229.804

The money tells me that. Well, Case Keenum's making more now, though. No, less. $2.5 million. $2.7 million. He signed a two-year, $5 million deal. I thought you said he was making $5 million a year. Two years, $5 million. Ah, okay. And there's some sort of out in Bajan's contract. I don't know. By the way, shout out Tommy DeVito. Yes. Getting that cash from the New England Patriots. Good for him.

229.784 - 253.349

What a story, huh? That means a very likable guy in the building. Absolutely. Tommy Cutlets didn't work out here ultimately, but he made a name for himself, became a fan favorite, goes up to New England, wins an AFC championship in that uniform while being on the roster, and then gets a nice payday for a backup quarterback. That's a story right there for you, the Tommy DeVito story. It is.

253.549 - 275.696

That's a never-give-up spot. There's probably about 100 of those types of guys in the NFL that we don't know about. We know about Tommy because he's from here and he was with the Giants. But there are guys that can hang on for a good 10 to 12 years, just making solid money every year, probably not playing a lot, maybe just doing special teams. And the next thing you know, they retire.

275.736 - 302.277

They've made somewhere around $20 million a year. Let's go to Scoop in Brooklyn. What's going on, Scoop? Hey, good morning. Good morning, Gio and Bulma. Listen, I disagree with you, Gio. I am so happy they got rid of that stupid event in Atlanta, Magic City. Because, listen, one year they start with the chicken wings, right? That's the bait to get you in. But what was it going to be next year?

302.438 - 326.486

And then the next year. And then the next year. Listen, I'm in my 50s. I'm an old school dude. I'm not approved or nothing like that. But I'm really tired of this over-sexualization we got going on in society. I got little kids. And we need to start protecting our kids and our society from all the debauchery and the vulgarities that's going on in the world.

Chapter 3: Why was the cancellation of the Magic City event viewed positively?

981.698 - 1003.111

Because it sounds rehearsed. That's not nice. I think he goes over it and he wants to think it through clearly, which I appreciate. I like Dan. Actually, I am going to hang out with him because he won a bunch of taproom gift cards and they expire like the end of April or something. So he's like, what's the closest one to your house? I'll come out there. I'm like, okay, no problem.

0

1003.131 - 1028.391

I'll hang with you for a little bit. But you're not staying over. Because he said, then I'll stay over. I'm like, no, you won't. No, no, no. You don't need me at that lunch. You need Al at that lunch. That's who you need at that lunch. I got to get back home, though, so. It's the Boomer and Geo podcast from WFAN. Hi, Boomer and Geo on the fan and CBS Sports Network.

0

1028.471 - 1051.762

In front of us right now is our special guest that will not speak, but has told many stories throughout the years. And that is the U.S. Open championship trophy with the U.S. Open coming back to Shinnecock this year. And we're both wearing some Shinnecock gear and Very, very special. We talked about the top days in golf and the Sunday at the U.S.

0

1051.862 - 1072.816

Open and then the history of Shinnecock and how hard it can play. He got a ton of storylines this year, obviously, with Scottie going for the Grand Slam. He got Brooks coming back to defend, so he's no longer with Liv. The last time he was at Shinnecock, he won. So all of those amazing storylines with the trophy in here, I'm just getting jacked up. It is such a great trophy.

0

1073.097 - 1088.358

And, you know, I always say it's the hardest trophy in golf to win. And to me, the most important trophy, if you're an American golfer, to win. Now, obviously, the Claret Jug is older. And there's more history, and that was the first major golf tournament, you know, the British Open.

1088.939 - 1112.273

But that Father's Day Sunday, if it's close and it gets a little nasty, and like Shinnecock did in 2018, rounds three and four were, if you remember, the controversy and Phil Mickelson complaining. Oh, yeah, of course, yeah. And Tommy Fleetwood had that. He shot a 63 in the final round. And then, of course, Brooks Koepka just grinding through, and he won back-to-back U.S. Opens. Yeah.

1113.455 - 1136.695

One of the great pieces of property in golf history is what Shinnecock is. And a lot of people that have never been out to the eastern end of Long Island, they think of Shinnecock being surrounded by water. It kind of is, but it's a landlocked between two golf courses, essentially. Yep. There's Southampton Golf Club to its east, and then there's National to its west.

1137.176 - 1159.597

And National's on the water, part of it, 17, 18, 16, 17, and 18. But the thing about it is that Shinnecock, the topography, is what makes it such an amazing golf course. Yeah. And the design and some of those crowned greens and just the beauty of the property is amazing with that beautiful clubhouse. and the USGA is going to have it tuned up to U.S.

1159.677 - 1175.994

open conditions, and we're going to be watching the truest test of golf. It's going to be probably about 7,400 yards long, a little bit longer than that, and it's going to be fast greens, probably 13 or 14, maybe even a 15. depending on how dry and how windy it is.
