Chapter 1: What insights does Geno Smith provide about his journey with the Jets?

0.031 - 24.402 Boomer

I start with Geno Smith before we get into some other things, only from the standpoint of, you know, he yesterday, while I have no, you know, who knows what type of player he will be this year. He seems so confident in the way he has matured, the way his game has gotten better. The things he said yesterday genuinely seem like he's happy to be with the Jets. I'll tell you,

0

24.382 - 34.543 Boomer

I was a Geno fan yesterday, and not that the Jet fans are thinking Super Bowl championship by any stretch, but I came away thinking, this guy seems like he really gets it.

0

35.705 - 55.117 Gio

Yeah, I don't listen. I think a lot of people remember, obviously, the rough times. Right. And but I don't think many people have paid attention to Gino's journey. I think the quarterback that he was in Seattle really kind of looked at his career and everything that he's been able to accomplish thus far.

0

Chapter 2: How has Geno Smith's maturity influenced his performance?

55.658 - 73.54 Gio

His time in, you know, his time in Las Vegas was rough, man. I mean, they had the 31st ranked office in line. They were depleted at the receiver position. They didn't have a very good defense outside of Matt Crosby. There was just a number of issues. And it's tough, too, because he wanted out of Seattle. He asked for the trade.

0

74.241 - 85.253 Gio

And they got Sam Darnold, and boom, they moved forward and won the Super Bowl. So it was a tough look. Nevertheless, man, I think when you hear him talk, he understands that, hey, man, I'm not –

0

Chapter 3: What challenges did Geno Smith face during his time in Las Vegas?

85.233 - 106.824 Gio

There's that famous line, they wrote, but I didn't write back. That's one of the things he leans on. But nevertheless, man, when you talk about where Geno is right now, I think he's been able to look back and say, hey, man, I was a young kid who stepped into New York full of hope and full of gusto. Things didn't work out. I've learned a lot. I've developed. I'm humbled.

0

107.805 - 127.701 Gio

I know who I am as a man, which is true. Jerry, I think I've told you this before. I didn't feel like I was a pro until year four or five in my career because you just have to grow up as a man, right? You got to learn what it means to be a pro, how to take the building each and every day, how to develop your relationships with people on and off the field. All that has to come to fruition.

0

127.721 - 146.549 Gio

And once you kind of get that, you start to calm down. Things from the neck up seem to kind of get in line. And I think he right now is – I think he's really – I think he feels like he – He wants to kind of rewrite this chapter in his Jet legacy. So I'm excited for him. I know a lot of people are that played with him.

0

147.03 - 157.225 Gio

I don't know if Jet fans are as excited, but hopefully he can turn some heads and make things go the right way this coming Sunday.

0

157.205 - 158.166 Boomer

And I agree with all that.

Chapter 4: How can Geno Smith rewrite his legacy with the Jets?

158.227 - 181.963 Boomer

I think the best part of it for him is that he's, A, it seems like he actually wants to be here, just reading through between the lines and listening to him, which is kind of a cool thing, number one. Number two, he's got a chance to rewrite the finish because if he goes somewhere else, his Jet career is his Jet career, and he's got an opportunity now to kind of close it in a much better way

0

181.943 - 203.001 Boomer

giving the fans a better sense or feeling about him as a quarterback. And in terms of the Raiders, yeah, I mean, I think a lot of people thought based on the way he played in Seattle, he's going with Pete Carroll, it's going to be unbelievable. They do have some pieces there. I will tell you, I saw them up close and personal one game, and that offensive line was dreadful.

0

203.141 - 203.682 Gio

It was bad.

0

203.662 - 224.289 Boomer

Hard to watch. Oh, I mean, he was like under siege from the first snap of the game, and that was from a Cowboys defense that wasn't very good this year. I mean, think about that for a second. And, you know, did he make some bad throws? No doubt. But everybody makes bad throws. He made some, for sure. But I also walked away from that game saying, this team is terrible.

0

224.349 - 229.295 Boomer

Now, you can come back at me and say, hey, dummy, the Jets are terrible.

230.016 - 230.156 Gio

Fair.

230.357 - 249.839 Boomer

And they were. To the point yesterday with all the draft picks that they've got coming up late in April with the draft and the first few rounds and the moves they've made and the offensive line they have, I can make a case that the 2026 Jets are nowhere near what the 2025 Jets were.

249.879 - 264.861 Boomer

I'm not saying that this is a Super Bowl team, not by a long shot, but it can be a representative NFL football team. He's got something to prove. To me, you've been around it. There's no better player to have on your team than a guy with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove, and he should have both.

265.081 - 280.833 Gio

Well, I think that's what a lot of guys, they are bringing in. You see a lot of this team making a lot of veteran moves, and I think we kind of briefly talked about it. They just have had... to get to a level of respectability, man. Nobody respected the Jets. Nobody wanted to be a part of the organization.

Chapter 5: What are the prospects for the Jets' performance in the upcoming season?

325.153 - 347.48 Gio

So I think the jets are on that path. And think about this too, Jerry. A lot of these guys aren't – these are bridge guys. A lot of these guys are one- or two-year deals. These aren't deals that you can lead them for a long time. They're going to go into this draft and kind of restock some quality pieces behind this veteran leadership. And I think the Jets are doing it the right way.

0

347.52 - 353.445 Gio

I'm happy with Mushi. I'm happy with AG. Now they just got to go win. They got to go get it done.

0

353.985 - 372.862 Boomer

You know, it's interesting because I've sat here for the last several weeks saying I don't understand what the Jets do. They're in such a weird spot. You want to draft the quarterback. You don't want to be good. But the coach needs to be good to keep his job or at least better than last year. And I feel like you just kind of answered the question I've had for the last month, month and a half.

0

372.962 - 396.991 Boomer

And that's you've got to be... a representative NFL football team and an attractive place for T for players to go to. And the jets haven't been that. And, you know, I agree with you. If all of a sudden they're not a three and 14 team, but they're an eight and nine team or a seven and 10 team that has made a jump from three wins to seven or possibly eight, all of a sudden, maybe a free agent.

0

397.151 - 400.495 Boomer

And I know money at cash is King. I know that, but maybe a, a,

400.475 - 425.2 Boomer

free agent that's got a choice jets or team b jets or team c and the jets seem like they're on the rise it is new york i get it's the jets but at least it becomes more of an attractive destination for them to go to whereas you know after last year i mean who wanted to come here and the way they're doing it seems like piece by piece maybe that would be in the cards for 2027

425.18 - 446.017 Gio

And listen, I think for a lot of Jets fans, you're like, you're bringing Geno back. They only have, once again, the bad memories. But Geno, right now, if you not only watch his style of play, but you've seen him develop from the neck up, right? Like, he's making... I know last year, he threw a league-high 17 interceptions. But... A lot of that was because of the makeup around him.

446.037 - 464.424 Gio

You talked about the bad office line. He didn't have a lot of options. But I think when Geno, when he's playing well and he's dialed in, he's a top 15 quarterback, maybe a top 10 quarterback at best. And I think for the Jets, you just need competent quarterback play. You need somebody to stabilize the offense. You have a really good running back in Breesaw.

464.444 - 474.739 Gio

You have this really good young offense line. You talk about a defense right now that's going through a turnover situation. and they got some older pieces that can really get some of these guys in the building to grow up fast.

Chapter 6: How does the Jets' roster compare to previous seasons?

475.621 - 492.666 Gio

So the arrow's going up for them. I think Drino right now has to not feel like he has to rewrite history, but just come in and do the job. Dude is as efficient and as competent as he possibly can, and everything will go right around him. If he's able to do that, I think he's going to be happy with his stay as a New York Jet.

0

492.646 - 512.786 Boomer

Right, so to what you were just discussing, Al and I did this, I guess it was, whatever, maybe Monday or Tuesday when, you know, Geno Smith was rumored to the Jets, or possibly coming to the Jets, and so I went back and I looked at the numbers exactly like what you're talking about, and so yeah, last year was bad. There is no mistaking that last year was... Bad year. It was a terrible season.

0

512.806 - 529.555 Boomer

19 touchdowns, 17 picks. He threw for only 3,000 yards. But it was a bad football team. You go back to the previous three years in Seattle and listen to these numbers. And again, they didn't win the Super Bowl with him. They won it this year with Sam Darnold, but they were a good team.

0

529.535 - 550.636 Boomer

and he throws for, in 2024, two years ago, not 12 years ago, he threw for 4,300 yards, 21 touchdowns, 15 picks, maybe a little bit too many on the interceptions, but 21 and 15. And the year before that, only a few years ago now, he throws for 3,600 yards, 20 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and one year before that, 30 and 11 and 4,200 yards.

0

550.656 - 563.454 Boomer

So it's not like he's not capable of putting up big numbers. He's done it, and he's done it very recently. And so, you know, I kind of... In an odd way, I'm looking forward to some Geno Smith Sundays, I got to tell you.

564.196 - 586.024 Gio

Well, the floor's been so damn low, Jerry. That's true. You know what I mean? If you're a Jets fan and you had to stomach the Zach Wilson times and Justin Fields and all that, man, you just want a quarterback that can... running offense, who can be on time with the football, who can improvise with his legs, who can throw the ball down the field when the option's open.

586.324 - 596.084 Gio

There's a level of quarterback play you just need to see. The Jets have been underneath that bar for so long that Geno's actually a fresh of breath air in a weird way.

596.224 - 599.451 Boomer

A fresh of breath air, Willie?

599.431 - 626.873 Gio

It's early. My mind is still spinning. I apologize. Hey, I'm with you. I got you. But it's – I know Eddie is like, clip. Him and Evan Roberts. Gotcha. So, yeah, I think Jets fans are going to be cautiously optimistic about Genome, but I'm excited for him. And I think the building is ready for a quarterback to come in the building and give him some hope.
