But this reminds me, whether it was his fault or not, with this whole Max Crosby situation, it reminds me of Costanza from Seinfeld quitting because he really wanted out of Vegas and kind of pushed his way out, which is why and what kind of started the trade situation. It reminds me of Costanza quitting because And then showing up a few days later, I'm back, baby, and I never left.
It's a very, very odd situation. And then you look at all the money the Raiders basically spent in free agency. I think they can fit him if he stays, but that's got to be a weird spot to be walking back in that building today, no?
Yeah, it's weird because I think as you mentioned earlier, last week he was saying his goodbyes and it seemed like he was ready to close the chapter and walk into a new one in Baltimore.
Chapter 2: How does Max Crosby's situation relate to the Ravens' decision?
I'm still scratching my head how we got here and how did the Baltimore Ravens land Trey Hendricks? Because you got to understand this, Jerry, he's a 31-year-old edge rusher. who was limited seven games due to a core injury, who, by the way, isn't the best run defender.
And then you let go of Max Crosby, who's younger at 29, who's a better run defender, and who we don't know the severity of the knee, but this is what I do know. The man has played over 6,000 snaps in his career. if this knee was an issue, was willing to finish out the season. We forget the Raiders had to put him on the bench because the man wanted to play.
So I think the knee wasn't as bad as we think, but we also aren't doctors and we didn't check out any MRIs. But nevertheless, man, we do know whatever the recovery time was, because of his makeup and his character, He was going to put all his chips into that, and he was going to be ready to go and be ready for week one for the Baltimore Ravens.
Now, I think the Ravens looked at this roster, and they realized, one, they lost Lindenbaum, who they expected to give them a hometown discount. Didn't happen. He goes to the Raiders. Two, people forget they paid Matt Abiqua, their star defensive tackle, a lot of money. he may be retiring because he's dealing with a neck injury, right? And they don't know what's the state of his future.
And they lost Kyle Vannoy to free agency. They lost Likely. They lost their big-time fullback to the Giants. And their coach. And their coach, right? And plus, the caveat to it all, With all those deficiencies, they lost those two first-round picks because of Max Crosby. So Eric DaCosta would never say it, but he had cold feet. He was like, oh, we can't do this.
They chose the medical situation as an out because I think they realized with the current roster, even with Max Crosby, they weren't going to be competitive to ā possibly land into the playoffs or win the division. Think about it. They don't have a number one receiver. Zay Flowers is technically their number one receiver. So they need a lot of pieces. They need more help.
And even with the roster they had going into this year, there was a belief that with the roster they had this year, they could win a Super Bowl. Obviously, that didn't happen. And so I think Eric Dacosta said, whoa, we got to rethink this thing. And if you're Max Crosby, you know, I don't know if this is a blessing in disguise.
But I do know the Raiders have done a good job thus far of putting veteran pieces on that defense that can stabilize that defense. And so if you're Max Crosby, you know, it's just a matter of, You know, there was talks about him having some issues with the front office. You now have to go back in that building and make right with some people you've probably wrote off. No doubt.
And I think you're right when you talk about the GM having cold feet. To me, it feels like you wake up the next day and you say, I gave a great player. But I gave up how much? And we got to pay him. Oh, by the way. And he's not making the veteran minimum.

Chapter 3: Why did the Ravens choose Trey Hendrickson over Max Crosby?
And then you've got a guy like Hendrickson out there. And you're right. They are not the same player. It's interesting. When you look at the sack situation, Hendrickson may have a few more in that category over the last five, six years. But every other statistical category, Max Crosby dwarfs him in. I mean, it's amazing.
how much better of an all-around player Crosby is, but they are getting a guy who can get to the quarterback in Hendrickson, so that does fill a need, but they also paid him a lot of money, too. It's not like, I don't know, to me, the money he got is what I would expect a Crosby to get, and I knew Hendrickson, again, can rush the passer.
Very interesting, though, when you look to your point about what he doesn't do well. But I do agree with what you're saying, that it probably came down to he realized, we gave up a lot to get this guy. I got to get out of this thing. Yeah, it felt like a panic mood, Jerry. I don't know how to explain it any better than that. And I like Trey Henderson. I thought he was damn good in New Orleans.
I thought he was a battle axe. in Cincinnati but when you talk about Max Crosby and his value he's like he's a leader of men right yeah that's a word we use a lot in football but he's a culture changer he's a guy when you need a play to be made you tug on his jersey and say hey I need you to go get me one he's capable of doing that Trey Hendricks is more, I see more as a mercenary, right?
Like somebody like, man, he's going to get you a couple of sacks. He's always going to be the guy that pops off the tape from a pass rush standpoint, but against the run, I've seen them be exposed. So, and if you're, if you've paid attention to this Ravens defense last year, They were bad on the back end. That's why Malik Willis got paid. Go back to that game against the Ravens in Green Bay.
The Baltimore Rays weren't good against the pass solely because they didn't have a pass rusher. And they didn't have nobody who can get home and attack the quarterback. Now you got Trey Hendricks. He's a boost, but you still need more. And there's still holes on the interior of that defensive line and offensive line.
And I think Eric Dacosta said, man, we got too much going on right now to let those picks go away on top of we got to attack free industry differently right now. All right. So with that said, if you are the Raiders, obviously what the Ravens were going to give you was a pretty good haul. Are you holding out for something similar?
Do you take a lesser package or do you kind of bite your tongue and you go shake hands, you hug each other and say, all right, you're back. And if things aren't going well, we'll discuss this again at the trade deadline. What's interesting, I think, so a couple of teams I thought was going to be, now that this is all transpired, Dallas, I thought, would be chopping out the bit. Me too.
Supposedly, Dallas, they've said they're going to move forward with Sean Gary out of green bands. They're going to set sails and continue to do what they do in free agency. I don't know. Maybe you agree with me. If I'm the Eagles, this is your chance. You have nine draft picks.
