So it's funny because as I'm reading the article you sent me, it says that there were strippers there and the cash was flowing and there were dollar bills all over. And I had to take a double take because at first I thought it said hookers. But it was hookers. Hookers. Not hookers, which was a good thing. What do you athletes do? My lord, reading that story.
And then the thing with the police was interesting because in the article it's like one of the police officers didn't give a crap that it was the Patriots. Another one was like, hey, just go win the Super Bowl and we're all good. What do you athletes do? Is that exactly what the Patriots were doing? Yeah. I mean, it was after the AFC Championship.
After I won my AFC Championship the year I won the Super Bowl, we went to the bar and we partied. Kevin Hart happened to be there, the comedian.

Chapter 2: What happened at the Patriots' AFC Championship celebration?
We partied with him. We drank. We got crazy. We got wild, right? I think for a lot of those guys, you win the AFC Championship, you're on your way to the Super Bowl, you got two weeks to kind of just celebrate a little bit. Listen, you give young guys... opportunities to flex in various ways, they're gonna do it. And the thing about, I remember when I was at Pittsburgh,
there's a couple of local establishments that used to just give us the keys and like, hey, close up when you leave. Right. And that's part of being an athlete, especially when you have a town who loves their team like the Patriots or what I dealt with in Pittsburgh.
There were times where we would be in a bar, we're having a good time, we have friends over, we have a couple distractions walking around. Yeah. That's what they're called, distractions? This is the safest way I can say it. We would have the owner be like, hey, Willie, just leave the key underneath the mat, and we would have a party.
I'm just glad that out of all this, it was wild too, Jared, is the interaction between the police because there are some cops like, listen, These are the boys. We know who they are. We know what they're capable of. Nothing's really going on crazy. Let's just keep it under wraps and be cool. And then sometimes you get some hard-os, right? Like, no, you don't have a license.
You're breaking the law. And so I've had some of those interactions. But nevertheless, man, I think it was just football players partying and enjoying a hell of a night. And obviously a great accomplishment in winning the AFC Championship. But this does happen around the league. Oh, I'm not surprised. I know. And you are correct.
I mean, if there's ever a time to do it, it is like either going off a big win into a bye week where you've got some time and guys are going to get away 100%, or, my God, you're AFC champions and you're two weeks away from the Super Bowl and you know you've got a couple of days to recover. I'm with you on that. And the other thing that you say is so true.
I know for a lot of us, you guys, meaning pro players, whether it's the NFL, the NBA, baseball, hockey, whatever, you guys are like video game pieces to us. So we sometimes forget. No, but it's true. We sometimes forget. If you put millions of dollars in my pocket at the age of 21 or 52, I have no idea how I would react.
And we look at these guys like they're supposed to be mature and know how to handle things. In a lot of ways, they're still kids. On top of that, Jerry, I also think the timing matters, right? Because think about how Victor Cruz, Odell Beckham, and all those guys that were on that boat before that playoff game, before they had the degree. They had a great season.
They wanted to go down to Miami and kind of blow off some steam. There was one pitcher that was taken. They go into that Green Bay game. They lose that game. We're on a boat. You know what I mean?

Chapter 3: How do athletes celebrate after big wins?
Like that one pitcher... We'll be forever cemented in giant history, right? And all those guys were doing was being young millionaires, blowing off some steam. They just happened to lose to the Green Bay Packers. These guys won the AFC Championship, did everything they were supposed to do on the field. Nobody got hurt in the party. There was nothing outrageous that happened or bad.
But TMZ says, like, oh, you know, let's get after them. And look at them. Hookah, hookers, money, prostitute, buffalo wings, sound like a hell of a night. And to be clear, there were no hookers. I misread the hookah. You know, I think that you mentioned the timing matters.
The time matters, too, because obviously I was not around in 1935 or 1945, but by everything I've read, it was as if the reporters were out babbling
boozing it up with the players like the the stories of mantle are legendary with how he used to go out and drammy you know him in the later stages of his life um basically talked about regret and you know if he could do things over maybe wouldn't have partied as much because it really did hurt him later in life also the fact that it might have cut his career possibly short i'm not sure that it did or it didn't but you know nobody was writing articles i don't believe
that can you believe? Mano went 0-3 today. You know why? He was out boozing it up last night. It seemed, you know, you're talking about TMZ. TMZ wasn't even a thought back then. And so the time matters just as much as the timing. Without a doubt.
I think for a lot of guys, and I learned this from James Harrison, one of my teammates at the Pittsburgh Steelers, he said, I think, because he had been cut three times by Bill Collar, but he was a guy who also went out and partied and enjoyed the nightlife. And then a light went off. He was like, I'm burning both ends of this candle, meaning his career. Like, I'm going out at night.
I'm partying up. But at the same time, I'm going super hard on the field so I can be the best I can be. And he realized, you know, some of that nightlife was affecting his play on the field. And if he wanted to be the guy he wanted to be, he had to cut one in. He had to cut something out. And that was the nightlife. And then, obviously, once he did that, he went on to become defensive MVP.
of the league and on and on and on and became obviously still a legend and soon to be a Go Jacket guy. I think for a lot of guys right now, Jerry, it's access, man. There's so much access to be anything and everything you want to be, right? And when you're on a winning team on a winning outfit, there's even more access, right? Right.
Sometimes it's hard to manage, but I credit the Pats for, listen, it would have felt better after, you know, you partied after the AFC championship. You would have loved to see these guys win, but it didn't happen. No, I wouldn't have loved to have seen them win. I was fine with what happened. Me too. I don't know why I said that, because I get the Pats. Let me ask you this.
