DEI is Non-Negotiable: Creating a Meaningful Experience for Every Student with Jen Cort

We are in a time where issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are seen as “divisive” and “harmful,” and teachers and students across the country are being persecuted for engaging in DEI work.It’s why, in this moment, those of us with privilege, who have the safety to speak without the repercussions that many others face, need to speak up on the importance of DEI in our schools and our society.I was honored to have my colleague Jen Cort on Breaking the Paradigm to discuss the imperative of DEI in schools, and in particular, a new project she created to help school administrators do a DEI audit of their “non-teaching” infrastructure.We discuss what it means to be on a journey of encompassing diversity, equity, and inclusion in schools, and some common pitfalls that institutions fall into.
