55. Get Rid of the Clinical Board Exam

19 Nov 2022

Description

Send us a textIn this episode. Marie aka @the_french_hygienist and I discuss our opinions about the dental hygiene clinical board exam. I, as a 2020 graduate, completed my exam on a live patient while Marie, a 2022 graduate, took her exam on a manikin. We go in depth about our personal experiences taking the exam and what we think testing should look like in the future. We have the tough conversation about the live patient exam being unethical and how it brings students into situations that are potentially unsafe. We also review how the manikin exam is inconsistent with working on a live patient and should not be the permanent solution to the clinical board exam. With this episode our goal is to bring awareness to advancements that could elevate our profession in the future. Regardless of our current opinion about this exam it's important to practice having open and honest about topics like this in order to elevate our profession. For more information about the clinical board exam check out the links below. **this episode is in regards to the clinical board exam, not the written national board dental hygiene exam.https://www.dentistryiq.com/dental-hygiene/article/14270236/examining-clinical-competency-the-past-present-and-possible-future-of-clinical-board-examshttps://www.todaysrdh.com/a-proposed-solution-for-a-national-dental-hygiene-clinical-exam/Connect with Marie:Instagram: @the_french_hygienist Connect with me: @brushwithbritt or [email protected]
