Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open Podcast. This is Dave LaGreca. On today's episode, myself and Nick Nemetok, AEW Dynamite, the big follow-up from Double or Nothing. Did they knock it out of the park?
Chapter 2: What was the overall impression of AEW's Double or Nothing?
We discuss right now on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Let's get into Dynamite and Collision from last night. Now, I am going to say this for the record. And I said it to Bully on Tuesday, but I'm going to repeat myself here on a Thursday. I truly believe that Double or Nothing this past Sunday was the best AEW pay-per-view I have ever seen.
Like, and if I go back about the other shows that I loved, the first ever Double or Nothing in 2000, like before even Dynamite started. Double or Nothing coming out of the pandemic. But I think that show that we saw this last weekend was their best pay-per-view. So, yeah. It's all about the follow-up. And we've talked about that, Nick. Yes.
That they put on killer pay-per-views every single time. They knock it out of the park. It's really about the follow-up, that dynamite that next Wednesday, their weekly TV. Now, I'm not going to come on here and say that that show last night was bad because it wasn't. It was a good show. But I'm still waiting for that next dynamite after a pay-per-view to be a home run.
And I just haven't seen it yet. And I told Bully, the last thing I want to say on the air to Nick on Thursday morning is business as usual. But unfortunately, that's what I'm going to say. Business as usual when it comes to AEW. By no means a bad show, but it wasn't a memorable great show. And I think it could have been.
And I just don't know why when it comes to Dynamite, they always just seem to miss the mark coming out of a pay-per-view.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. As always, it's a good show. We were waiting for the okay. There's this time and place in the world where WWE has some people questioning if there's other pro wrestling out there for me to check out. Maybe there's something in my neighborhood more, something more affordable, something with more wrestling on it, some alternative something. That is out there.
And in this moment where sometimes TKO has some high prices that people got to deal with it every once in a while in this economy, people go, maybe I'll try something out. There's a perfect time for AEW to be hitting their absolute stride. And they are. It's going on seven years in and they're really starting to pick up. They're getting the more stories that we begged for.
We begged for recaps and packages, just said little things that we forget about. And when you watch a seven hour paper, you might forget some awesome stuff. And every time we get down to that Wednesday, we go, okay, how are they going to capitalize? We'll be with packages. We'll be with reminding us. We'll be going on to another feud. We'll be, oh, they're going Darby versus MJF again.
Where are they going? And they come out of Wednesday going, yeah, that was a pretty good Wednesday. We got some stories. We got some people going on. But nothing that goes, wow, Dave, this is the effing show that I need to make sure I watch every Wednesday because I know they're going to blow the roof off at the pay-per-views. But what sucks me in is the story week to week to get to that match.

Chapter 3: How important is the follow-up after a major pay-per-view?
Well, Dave, what do you want? Listen, I'm not coming on here to criticize just for criticize sake. But when you have a pay-per-view like they did on Sunday that I am saying is the best pay-per-view that I have seen from AEW since they started, why not celebrate that a little bit more? You had a sold-out crowd in New York City. That was hot from beginning to end.
How do you not have a highlight package to open up that show last night for what just took place on Sunday? How? How do you just go to business? Like, let's just get to Dynamite. Let's just get to the business. Take time to do a victory lap and celebrate a sold-out crowd for one of your pay-per-views because you had 15,000 people at Double or Nothing on Sunday.
And just in case some people only saw highlights online or, hey, Sunday, it's my family day. I couldn't watch the pay-per-view, but I love the show. I wonder what happened.
Chapter 4: What were the highlights from AEW Dynamite following Double or Nothing?
I caught up on social media. I heard about some things. But if you can just remind us, we all have attention spans of goldfish these days. And when my phone pings, my head jerks to the right and I go check it out. And then I forget, girls, I dated for two years in college. I can't remember their name, but I remember ā
who was wrestling yesterday, but when it goes back to Sunday, exactly your point. Spike the football for us and let us go, hey, we're the awesome, cool wrestling company that's that alternative that you've always wanted, and now you have it, and we just blew the roof off again on our pay-per-view. You want to know why? What match was your favorite? Oh, this one?
Well, there was 11 other ones that tried to outdo it. Here is two minutes, two minutes of a seven-hour show, and you go, holy crap, I not only need to see this next time, if that is anywhere near me, I need to be there. Because this is history making. This is incredible. This is the wrestling company giving me an alternative and telling you this is what pay-per-views can be.
They don't have to be ads and four matches and a bunch of bullshit. They can be non-stop ass-kicking, outdoing each other, show-stealing matches. But you gotta come Wednesday and be pulled in with some stories just a little bit. Remind us with a package. Remind us with just a little still energy. anything, let me remember the awesome show that happened.
Yeah, because it was awesome. Like you just said, it was, you know, so... You know, blow your own horn. Don't you do your own horn. You know what I'm saying? Like, what's the fucking expression? Blow your own horn.
Blow your own door, I think.
Yeah. I mean, do your own horn, man. Like, talk about show clips of people saying that this is the best pay-per-view of the year. This is the best pay-per-view I've seen in a decade. This is AEW's best pay-per-view. Like, let us know. Show us.
Tell us about it. You could have the MJF celebration and he goes and he cuts to people leaving the show going, that was the greatest thing I've ever fucking seen in my life in pro wrestling. And he can take all the credit for it. That way you're not just giving us a package that we don't want. It's something the sickos want. The sickos want MJF talking. Let him throw to the trot.
Let him show the crowd. Let him show action from the matches. Let him just show action from him being on top of the match, whatever. And you let all of us try like, Oh, I forgot because there was nine matches in a row that were insane. I forgot six of them. Thank you for reminding me this company effing rules. I'll be back here on Wednesday.

Chapter 5: What are the fans' expectations for the new storylines introduced?
Yeah. The last thing you want to do, and it's what they did last night is open up the show with a backstage segment. You know what I'm saying? And then go into Kevin Knight and Speedball Mike Bailey. Open up with Adam Copeland and Christian. These are two guys. Adam Copeland's a Hall of Famer in the other company. Have him open up the show that, you know what?
Sunday was the greatest experience of my pro wrestling career. To be in front of that sold-out crowd in New York City... And to see and have us accomplish what we accomplished. And now we're here in Philadelphia. Philadelphia. And get those fans pumped up and get them proud. Just show us everything that happened. All the highlights. Like you said, Nick, I agree with you.
Not everybody that's watching Dynamite on Wednesday saw what happened on Sunday. Not everybody that watches on Wednesday pays the $40 to watch the pay-per-view. Plus, it's a holiday weekend. So show everybody what took place. This monumental show, this fantastic show, because it was celebrated, sold out. Everybody thought this company was dead, doom and gloom. They sold out that building.
15,000 fans on the road to all then when we're going to have 70,000 fans in Wembley, like let's tout it. Let's celebrate it. Let's fucking go. Just like moving on and just like, all right, that's over. That's in the rear view mirror. What's next? You have plenty of time for what's next.
Yep. Yeah, the full show, plus the overrun, plus collision, plus maybe overrun on there if you want. You got the time. Oh, just remind us just a little bit. The Sickos got their matches. The Sickos got their build-ups, their matches, their pieces. Everything that you saw, you know there's a couple things you forgot about. Just get reminded and go, oh, right, another awesome thing happened.
Yes, I love this. Okay, now I see where they're going here. Let's go. Oh, it's just such a little thing, but we forget the awesome stuff we saw the day before, let alone a few days before.
Yeah. He had three hours. So why, what's the big deal? Like I know for myself, if I was there in attendance, I, I want to kind of relive that moment again. If I was watching it on TV, I want to relive that moment again because it was special. It's worth going back and showing those highlights again. I'm not talking about a five-minute package. Two and a half minutes. Two and a half minutes.
Now, I will say they did a good job. Like when Kevin Knight came out, they showed what Kevin Knight did to Darby Allin. That's definitely a step in the right direction, but... But, man, I just wish they would have done that. And Bully said, and I agree, you know what? I would have been fine with Tony Khan opening that show last night. Tony Khan came and got there.
We had a sold-out show in New York City on Sunday, but here we are in Philadelphia. You know, I remember like it was yesterday, me sitting in the ECW arena, Watching Taz. Watching Jericho. It made me a fan, and it made me do what I'm doing today. In Philadelphia, the greatest wrestling city in the world. Place goes nuts. Everybody chanting, A-E-Dub, A-E-Dub, A-E-Dub. We had double or nothing.

Chapter 6: How does the AEW narrative compare to WWE's storytelling?
And there's Kenny Omega. Ooh, Kenny Omega. I like Kenny Omega. And Kenny Omega's like, hey... We need to talk. Yeah, bruv. Let's go. Let's, you know, let's address the elephant in the room. The Death Riders. And then Will Ospreay's like, he did the Scooby-Doo. Go back and watch. He did the Scooby-Doo. He went down. He like turned his head like, huh? Like, yeah, of course the Death Riders.
They broke your neck. They tried to kill you. They tried to end your career. You're surprised I'm your friend? You're surprised I'm bringing this up? Come on, pal. What are you doing? You needed help. Come to me. I would have helped you. Well, you weren't here. Hey, man, I lost. I got to do things my way. Well, this is me doing things my way. Okay, that's fine. I don't know where this is going.
I'm hyped. I'm hyped to see Will Ospreay against MJF at All In. We're all going to be rooting for Will Ospreay to win this tournament and go on to face MJF. The Death Rider stuff, we've tried to explain it. I don't give a shit. I've got a quote. You can quote me. I don't care. I don't give a shit. The only thing I give a shit about is Will Ospreay against MJF at All In. Because that's our guy.
I don't need the distractions. I don't need, is he a baby face? Is he a part of this? Like, he went out for his match. They didn't come out with him and all that. They went the other way. They did the old okey-doke. We went this way, even though we're wrestling together. I went this way. They went that way. But we met in the middle. All right, here we are. We're wrestling together. That's fine.
I don't care. All I care about is get me to Will Ospreay and MJF. That's what I care about.
Do you think to get to that, it is defeat the Death Riders, drop the Death Riders, or they watch his back to help him to solidify it and you go to the big match against Max? How do you think this plays out?
Nick, let me ask you a question. Can I ask you a question, Nick? All right, let's just say, let's say the core. You know, that old faction.
Wade Barrett. With the great merchandise.
Yeah. The core.

Chapter 7: What role does Will Ospreay play in the upcoming AEW events?
I'm going to kick their butt. I'm going to kick, I'm going to kick their butts. There we go. I'm going to kick their ā Wade Barrett. I'm going to go through ā I'm going to go through Heath Slater, David Otunga. I don't remember who said the core.
Whoever the rest are.
I don't even remember who the core was. But you know what? Core. Justin Gabriel in there? You know what? Maybe. You know what? I love it. I'm going to ā Justin Gabriel, I'm going to kill you. I'm going to kill you, David Otunga. I'm going to get ā and then Wade Barrett. You are the one. And when I defeat you, I'm going after that WWE World Championship.
Yeah. You will be gone. You will have nothing. I will have taken everything away from you and ruined your lives like you attempt to ruin my career and life. I'm taking you out one by one, and you're done. And if you ever make it back, come find me because I gladly face you.
You're not going to be like, you know what? You guys broke my neck. I get it. You had me out for 10 months. I know my livelihood was almost taken away from me, but I need you guys to rebuild. You broke me down to begin with, but now you're going to rebuild me into this fighting machine. By the way, Will Ospreay is wrestling the same way he's always wrestled.
I tried to buy into maybe it was different. It's not. It's not. But anyway, let's look past that.
that would be like after the core takes you out you align yourself with the core and then i know brian no matt cardona comes into the back he goes dude what are you doing why are you aligning yourself the core and you're like what are you talking about the core is trying to murder you yeah well you tried what what do you mean yeah but
It's all good, you know, because they're going to rebuild me so I can go on to win the world championship. Okay. Coming up next, more of our conversation on AEW Dynamite. Your one-stop shop for R-A-S-S-L-I and that's wrestling. Pro Wrestling Nation, 24-7, channel 156. All right, maybe he's infiltrating the Death Reich. Like, he's going to kill them. Okay.
How about just beating the shit out of each one of them and then beat the shit out of Jon Moxley and then that will take us to August and then we go on and face MJF for the AEW World Championship. Am I wrong? Am I insane? Am I wrong here?

Chapter 8: What are the potential outcomes for Will Ospreay's character arc?
So now we got three months, three months, three months until we get there. So you got 12 weeks of TV. So in those 12 weeks, can they tell that story? They might be able to tell that story.
They could. They really could. But there has to be something other than. like how it's been so far, just going, Oh, you guys, you don't understand these guys. You know, I'm, I'm training. You can't just keep doing that to everybody.
We're going to need one little, little teaser of something else of like, Hey, you don't understand where I'm going with this or, Hey, trust me, I've got a plan or I'm looking into something with this group. I'm trying to get on their best side. And it's like, Oh, okay, maybe sucker him in. I don't know.
Maybe he goes the full 12 weeks, and he's in the best shape he's ever been and his neck's stronger than ever, and he goes out there and he wins the title, and they host him up on his arms. And you go, oh, God, where are they going here? I don't know because there's no teases to either way.
And I've had friends that were in New York for Double or Nothing. I had friends that were in Philadelphia last night. They're all saying, dude, Will Ospreay is the most over guy in this company. So I don't understand. Why not just go with that? Why not just build with that? Have him get back at the Death Riders, beat the Death Riders, then go on and face MJF at All In.
Now, you might say, well, that's too simple or that's obvious. Well... Even this, we're still going to get. You're not going to tell me he's not going to win this tournament. He's not going to go on. He's not going to face MJF at All In. That's the plan. That's the way to go. So what makes sense? He's using the Death Riders to rebuild himself?
Like we're going to get to All In and he's going to be like, ha ha, I used you guys to build me back up? Is it going to be I infiltrated you to take you guys down? Or is it like I'm part of the Death Riders? I want to be part of the Death Riders. Or they turn on him or whatever. I'm trying to understand because this Death Riders thing has been going on for so long.
And it really hasn't made any sense to me at all. Now it's crunch time. You got your biggest show coming up in three months. And Will Ospreay is the future of this company, and he's the most over guy in this company. Whatever you have planned, if it's not what I thought of or what you thought of, this has got to be the best goddamn story that AEW has ever told.
It's got to knock us off our fucking feet where we're like, holy shit. That was the best story that AEW has ever told in their existence. Why? Because you're leading to the biggest event in all land in Wembley, and it's your guy. It's the moment. It's Will Ospreay at Wembley in his home in front of 70,000 fans, and this is the guy that's going to take you the next 10 years.
