Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Welcome to the Busted Open Podcast. This is Dave LaGreca. On today's episode, myself and Nick Nemeth talk AEW Dynamite. Also, Natty Neidhart and I talk about mask versus mask. All that right now on the Busted Open Podcast. This is the Busted Open Podcast. Let's get into AEW Dynamite.
Let's do it.
And let's talk about Mark Briscoe. Mark Briscoe won hell of a promo last night. Obviously, when we think of the Briscoes and who we lost and that team and what they've meant to professional wrestling, to hear that from Mark Briscoe and Mark Briscoe has defeated MJF. Mark Briscoe deserves a chance at that AEW World Championship title.
first of all, great way to start Dynamite last night with Roosh and MJF. Great ending. Mark Briscoe comes out. But it's more, forget about what happened physically in the ring with Mark Briscoe and MJF. It's more about what Mark Briscoe said on the microphone. And that, I think, has gotten everybody excited for what's going to be the next chapter between these two.
Absolutely. Don't get mad at me, Nation, but it is rare that you get AEW to where it's not just the great matches. It stood out to me. with Briscoe talking, and I went, this is a great wrestling promo.

Chapter 2: What insights does Mark Briscoe share in his promo?
I was so lost in it for a minute because he's got some real life, he's telling real life history to you, and you sit there, you can hear the crowd, a pin can drop because he's telling you about his life and what he's went through and his brother, and it's a beautiful thing. And every couple of minutes, I'm like, man, that was a good wrestling promo. I guess we're done. What's next?
And he goes on to another chapter of it, and he... This young man laid the entire story out personally and what's happening at work with MJF and what he can do and the friends that in the conglomeration. And I go, what an absolutely beautiful storytelling promo that made me go halfway through it. I go, man, they're going to let this guy get pretty damn close to the title.
But, you know, I don't I don't know that, you know, he he'll be world champion. And then another two or three minutes goes by and I go, you know what? What a great story this is. I believe this guy. He backs it up in the ring. You know what? I kind of want to see him as champ. And by the end of that damn thing, I went, you know what?
I'll run through a wall for you, brother, to make sure you get a shot at being this championship. There's such a great story and history with those two, with MJF and Briscoe, and getting the great promos. Man, Briscoe's been delivering for a long time. In the ring and on the mic.
And yesterday just got me to go, man, I got to start respecting this guy as one of the guys that should be fighting for the world title on a regular basis.
Absolutely. And it also helps that MJF, like Rene, caught up to him when he was in the hot tub after the match. And he's like, it ain't happening. Like, you know, I'm the champion. As the champion, there's nobody above me.

Chapter 3: How does Mark Briscoe's story connect with MJF's character?
Nobody's going to tell me what to do. So you have both contrasts. And it's a great job because, you know, we talk about MJF. And Bully said this on the show many times. You know, MJF is one of those heels that you love to hate. And a lot of times he gets cheers.
You know, if he's in the ring with a Mark Briscoe and they tell this story right, and by the way, they are, you're going to get those fans to absolutely hate MJF and love Mark Briscoe. And like you, I know that we kind of sound like a broken record, but that's what a great promo can do. Had nothing to do with the match. Like the Mark Briscoe-Leo Rush match, that was what it was.
It was entertaining, but you know what? As soon as it was over, it's in the rearview mirror. It's forgotten. Yeah. But those words that Mark Briscoe said, those are going to linger on. And I think that's what you mean, Nick. That's when those things are done right, they leave an impact, and that left an impact on Dynamite last night.
Big time. In my notes, the first thing was just how great Briscoe is at delivering a story of a promo, and it really made me excited about it. And you're right. I was told this a long time ago by Vince. even if you have a four minute or a 20 minute match. And if it's cold or the story is somebody else, you make that good match.
But remember the important part that we're all going to be talking about. If you do it right, is that connection on the microphone afterwards? So we forget sometimes in pro wrestling that, The world isn't just those matches. And the matches are always great on AEW. But when you can get that match and then get that realness on the promo, that stands out in any company. I cannot stress enough.
We all have this issue. Even when it is a personal issue, when you mix with your real life story and you're thinking back on things that genuinely happened to you. Instead of just playing a character, it is hard to translate that realism through the TV screen and through the crowd. And Briscoe did it great. And just that contrast between the two. Rich guy, Max, who thinks he's the best.
And this guy is just like an everyday guy who's willing to fight on the line for you every step of the way and will run through a wall. And also...

Chapter 4: What makes Mark Briscoe's promo stand out in AEW?
Also, not just the physical aspect. Mentally, you're like, I want this guy to be champion just because of a few things he's said in the last couple of months.
It's simple. It works. And it's an emotional connection with your audience. And Mark Briscoe has that right now. Now we go to the main event, and it was a great main event with Will Ospreay and Mark Davis. He had a lot of run-ins at the end. Now, listen, I may be going out on a limb here, but I think it's definitive now, right? The Death Riders are babyfaces?
This week, they definitely are babies. They were definitely babyfaces last night in that main event. Yes. Now, again... What's going to happen? Because come August, if he wins this Owen Hart tournament, Will Ospreay, which he would have to be the favorite, and now he got past Mark Davis, so we'll see what's going to happen, who he's going to face next.
But the Death Riders, to me, were definitively babyfaces last night, right? Yeah.
Yes. And you could really feel it on that shotgun type run in style where even just claw, like every, I loved it because sometimes, sometimes we, we, we abandon a little bit of the production value when it comes to AEW and focus on the killer matches and things. And yesterday as the camera would zoom in or turn to the side, it didn't spoil who was coming to the ring.
And that's really important for you. So I'm watching that as an analyst and, but also as a fan going, okay, great. I like when you, at home, you don't get to see what's happening until it is directly on your screen. And the buildup of the crowd just rumbling before I got to see who was coming in and doing what, that just made it extra special.
Great job on the production aspect of it and the cameras last night. And another part of that aspect was in that Roosh-MJF match where you've got to have a great shot of Roosh sticking his tongue out going, screw you, brother, and sticking his middle finger out. And you've got to have that view right before he passed out and ended the match.
There's just something really good that it's hard to teach, but it helps tell that story. And watching all those run-ins, even Claudio taking his shirt off, it was like a Beatles on Ed Sullivan. The girls were all shrieking for him. There's something baby faces, extra babied for these Death Riders. And I think you're right. They are full on good guys for the moment.
And before we break and we get to Eric Young, because Eric Young is going to be with us right after the break, Nick. And I'm looking forward to talking to him about everything that's happening tonight on AMC with TNA Impact at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. Kevin Knight now a part of the Don Callis family.
