Chapter 1: What is the current weather forecast for this week?
The Clare Byrne Show on Newstalk with Aviva Insurance.
Speaking of summer and good weather, the sunshine really is here. Metair and have issued a status yellow high temperature warning and I'm joined now by meteorologist at Ireland's Weather Channel, Cahill Nolan. Good morning, Cahill.
Very good morning, Clare.
So we're expecting very high temperatures, are we?
We are indeed. The temperatures over the course of the next couple of days will continue to rise each day. Typically for today through tomorrow, we expect to see temperatures in the region of 27 to 28 degrees Celsius, perhaps an isolated 29 degrees Celsius. By the time we get to Wednesday, we could see temperatures approaching 30 degrees at that point.
And in particular, on Thursday, it looks like we're going to be under the influence of some very hot air, which is emanating from parts of northern France, which are experiencing heatwave conditions at the moment. But values on Thursday across the country could exceed 30 degrees and possibly push close towards 32 degrees Celsius in one or two areas.

Chapter 2: How high will temperatures rise in Ireland this week?
Very high for this part of the world. And are these nationwide temperatures, are we expecting?
These are nationwide temperatures. The only areas that will see slightly cooler conditions are areas closer to probably immediately along the east and southeast coast as we have onshore winds here. So somewhere in the region of maybe 25, 26 degrees Celsius here. It's farther inland that we're likely to see the very highest of the temperatures and the overall highest temperatures.
In saying that, there is a little bit of a pocket in and around the greater Dublin area where we could see some of those highest temperatures, but it's likely that they will be farther towards the midlands and indeed through parts of the midwest as where we typically see our highest temperatures during Thursday.
What happens then after Thursday? Are we expecting this to last into the weekend?
Not really. So after Thursday, we do see a drop off in the temperatures for Friday. On Friday, the values are back down towards more near normal values. And when I say that, they're back towards maybe 24 to 26 degrees Celsius in some northern parts, cooler elsewhere. And then over the course of the weekend, low pressure situated to our northwest.
It's close enough that it introduces much fresher air. By much fresher air, we mean temperatures in the high teens still touching the low 20s in one or two locations. One or two showers about, but still a good deal of dry weather. So it's not a real catastrophic break that we're seeing in the weather.
And even thereafter, there is the potential that we see the return of high pressure once again, bringing for more settled weather as we head into next week. But it's a little bit beyond the certainty point at this stage.
All right, but plenty of good weather as far as we can see anyway to come. Cahill, thanks so much. Cahill Nolan there, meteorologist at Ireland's Weather Channel.
