How science and stories support wellbeing transformation – Nadia Charguia, MD

Nadia Charguia, MD, is an associate professor and child psychiatrist with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also the Director for the Taking Care of Our Own Program and serves as the Executive Medical Director for UNC Healthcare’s Integrated Wellbeing Program, leading wellbeing efforts systemwide. In this role, Dr. Charguia works to directly to support and promote the mental health needs of physicians and other healthcare professionals as well as resident and medical student education and support. Clinically, Dr. Charguia’s scope of practice has included working with children, adolescents, adults and their families in the context of associated mood, anxiety, trauma, eating and/or psychotic related disorders.     In this episode of Caring Greatly, Dr. Charguia shares how wellbeing efforts at UNC shifted from a focus on individual practices to support clinicians to a systems-based approach that works toward practice transformation. She explains how and why UNC Healthcare employs human-factors engineers to support science-based improvements in clinical workflows and resourcing.
