Chapter 1: What makes Nova excited about podcasting?
Okay, everybody, welcome back to another episode of Kate and Ty Break It Down. And today is super special because today is just me and Nova. Yes, I'm so happy to be here. Do you like, I mean, what do you think? You did the podcast last week with mom. So what are your thoughts about now that you've like done a podcast? I think it's really fun. Is it? Yeah. Why do you think it's fun?
I don't, I really don't know. I just think it's like so... You put him under the blanket? Yeah. Okay, so she has her bearded dragon with her, of course, Mochi over here. Once again. Because he was, I guess, what was he doing in the cage? He was surfing on the glass. Like, he was wanting to get out. He was, like, scratching on the glass.
He was jumping on the glass, and he was like... So he's another co-host, I guess. Look at him. Look at him. Look at him. He just licked the cord. He doesn't know what's going on. But yes, I was like, thinking in my head, I'm like, well, you did one last week with mom. So you thought it was like, I mean, hey. I thought it was really fun. Just talking, right?
Chapter 2: How did Nova choose the name for her bearded dragon, Mochi?
Yeah, just talking. I mean, honestly, isn't this what we do at home anyway? Yeah. I mean, so it's kind of like... It's pretty normal that we just talk. It's pretty normal, yeah. Except I'm in front of millions of people, so it's kind of... Whoa, what do you mean? What is that? I mean, is that like... It kind of, um... Because technically you're not in front of millions of people yet.
Like, it's just me and you right now. Eventually it will be, but what does that feel like? It feels... There he goes. Oh my... Mochi just crawled off the chair. He eats cords, so I'm trying not to... It's alright. He eats cords. He does? Yeah. Well, don't let him eat the cast cord, the mic cords. Hey man, you gotta stay up by your mama. Stay by your mouth.
Because he tried eating my... He tried eating my, like, charger cord. And I was like... Like, all I heard was... Noah, oh, my gosh. I didn't know they ate cords. They did. Oh, you just didn't know he got it. I didn't know that he had it. Yeah, they're little scavengers.
distracting me because he's crawling around he wants to go today he's a mover oh my gosh wow okay um so anyway back to what this is what happened if you didn't know this is how me and nova's conversation usually go they're like we talk about one thing and it goes to another and then we get all we're all over the place yeah Okay, but back to what I was saying.
So, obviously, we're not in front of millions of people right now. Yeah. But you know that eventually we're going to be. Eventually we will be. Yeah, but being in front of millions of people, what does that feel like for you? It feels kind of cool. Okay. Why does it feel cool?
It's just that I've just never had... Well, I know people watch the show, but on a different note, like on a podcast where it's actually live and you don't have to redo the scene multiple, multiple, multiple times. Yeah. So it's kind of like, whoa. Well, yeah, I guess podcasts are a little different than like... Because when the crew is here...
me and mom don't have control what's what they choose to put on tv we just sit there and we film and we talk and that's what we do so i think with this is a little different because we're like we can talk about what we want to talk about you know i mean would you rather like because the one thing about it being in front of millions of people is like oh it's different but at the same time you have such opportunities to like share stories maybe connect with people um
I think that's one thing that's really cool that me and mom like is that we get to hear people say like oh wow I didn't know about this or that and you guys really inspired me and this and that so I think that's a cool part but I mean I get it it's you know it's different it's different but you've been around cameras your whole life so I feel like it's not too different right and we also don't really watch the show we never watch the show so so it's kind of like I always wanted to see at least one episode
You do? Yeah. Oh, really? Just a random episode? Any specific episode? I don't know. What kind of episode? A random one, maybe? Maybe just a random one. I'm trying to think, though. You're 11, so what do you think is a right age to watch an episode? An episode? I've never watched a show before, so I don't really know what to say. Anyway, so listen.

Chapter 3: What are Nova's thoughts on social media for kids?
I mean, what the heck, man? Yeah. And I know I got some great questions that I know. From the viewers? Yeah, from people who are just like, you know, me and mom ask people like, hey, what would you, you know, what are they interested in, right? So I feel like some of these are really good. Oh, first question. How long have you had your bearded dragon and how did you come up with his name?
For Mochi, I really didn't know if I was going to get a girl or a boy, but I was leaning towards boy, and I kind of just felt like Mochi would be a perfect name for any type of bearded dragon. That's true. So I just, and, yeah, I've had him for close to two years. Yep. And, yeah, he's just. Your baby. Yeah. I mean, you saved up all your money. I did. You saved up a lot of money.
Except my mom did help me a lot by buying me the cage. No, she did, yeah. That's, like, the most expensive thing. I think his cage was, like, over $500, so it was a little bit. Yeah, but you saved up all the other money. So, I mean. Dude. You did it. And what made you want to get a bearded dragon? Me. Yeah. I don't know.
Chapter 4: How does Nova feel about her reading scores and achievements?
I didn't even know bearded dragons existed. Oh, really? So how did you find out about them? I found out about them. Okay, so I was about to get a turtle because, remember, I rescued those two turtles. I'm like, oh, my God, I want a turtle. So we went on the website. There was this really pretty turtle. I think it was a full doll, and it was a paint turtle. Oh, it was a full doll? Mm-hmm.
And below it was a bearded dragon. Oh, okay. So cool. So my mind just kind of switched on and I was like, I had no idea these were real. So I searched up on like Google and stuff and they said they were a popular pet, like a really popular pet for like reptile enthusiasts. Oh, is that what you are? A reptile enthusiast?
i wouldn't say that but i just well you have mochi he's a bearded dragon you have you have a lemon lemon a gecko and one of my friends have a tree monitor what's that it's a tree monitor a tree monitor they're common really different breeds usually tree monitors are like basically monitors that just climb on trees are they bigger or smaller than a bearded dragon They can be various of sizes.
Oh, really? During, like, different types of monitors. So, there is a type of monitor that's about this size. There's another one that's about this big. Oh, okay. And then there's another one that is very close to, like, the size of almost, like, you know, those, like, Maine Coons? Oh, yeah? There's those type of monitors. Okay. A lizard as big as a Maine Coon? Yes. What? Yeah.
You would have them as pets? Yep. Whoa, whoa. Yeah, you'd need a whole entire spare room for them. You would need a whole house. That's insane. And they eat the same stuff?

Chapter 5: What inspired Nova to become a young author?
Like as these guys? Yeah. Oh, no. They eat smaller rats. Rats? So what are they? I'm looking it up. What is a monitor? A tree monitor. I have to see what these look like now. Oh, my. Oh, so they get bigger than that? Or they get bigger than that? Oh, no, that's the smallest type. Oh, my. All right. Wow. So they're huge. No, no, they just made the lizard look bigger than it actually is.
Search it up like a size reference. Like a size. Like how big is like a tree monitor? Like how big is like a tree monitor? Oh, I see. Like go to scale. Yeah, go to scale. Like a human hand. Oh, I see. Okay. All right. So they're actually smaller than you think. So they're kind of smaller than what? You thought they were. Yeah, yeah. It looked crazy. But there's also skinks. What the heck is that?
What did you say? Say it again. What is it called? There's skinks. Skinks? That get massive. And that's a reptile. It's a reptile. No, I messed around with a big old reptile. It scares me. It's like the size of a normal person's torso. No. Listen, this is where me and you are different. I have, like, big old lizards. I was like, ah! Yeah, my friend has a baby tree monitor right now.
I think it's green-colored, and she's doing really good with it. She showed me a couple pictures, and she didn't really tell me what they usually eat, but, like, bigger, like, bigger, bigger, I mean, bigger, bigger ones usually eat smaller lizards. Um, mice and sometimes they can eat like little baby snakes. Wow, they eat, I can't, I just can't believe feeding it a mice is like crazy.
Oh yeah, they eat live mice too. So if you want to. Bearded dragons eat mice.

Chapter 6: How does Nova define kindness and compassion?
They can eat mice. Yeah, there's this one guy on, yeah, there's this one guy on YouTube that like feeds his bearded dragon mice. And this bearded dragon, he's healthy. Really? I did not, I never knew that they could eat mice. Oh yeah, especially in the wild. See, learning something new every day. See, you teach me stuff all the time.
Especially in the wild, when there's more mice than normal food, like mealworms and stuff. Oh, okay. Because National Geographic, they have this one episode where they basically find a bearded dragon catching a mice. Wow. That's crazy. They can also eat small frogs. So a reptile eating an amphibian. Dang. Well, I'm kind of glad then. I'm glad we don't have to feed... Them live mice.

Do you know what that means? Your teacher told me. She said... I can't monitor it? No, you didn't tell me that – yeah, pretty much. Like you, there's a scale, right? She said there's a score that you get on a reading test, a reading and writing test, whatever. And so she said that the highest score you can get is an 800, and then if you get above an 800, it's 800 plus.
She said you got an 800 plus, and she's like, listen, that means that she's above eighth grade, ninth grade.

Chapter 7: What are Nova's dreams for the future?
She's going in – like you're – You could be reading and writing at a level in high school, and you just started fifth grade. You didn't even tell me that. And then she said... And, um... Did she tell you that? Did you know about that before I knew about that? So you found that out at parent-teacher conferences just like I did? Oh, no.
I found it out like a day before a parent-teacher conference. And what did she say? Like, why didn't you – what? She just gave me a lot of praise, and she was like, you're doing such a good job. I'm so proud of you. And you didn't – I ask you what – I always ask you every day after school, how did school go? Anything happen at school today? You're like, yeah, it's all right.
You didn't say you couldn't have mentioned, hey, by the way, I'm reading it above a high school grade level. I'm only in fifth grade. That would have been something cool you could tell me. Yeah, in third grade, I was reading on a sixth grade level, and it's kind of weird. So that's crazy. I mean, that's really good, Nova. And she also said there's a, what was the score? 208 is a normal score.
209 is a normal score, and I got 220. Okay, dude, you're above and beyond. That's amazing because you're smart. though. I mean, I wouldn't say you're bad at math. It's just that I bombed that test. It's just that one test. I mean, listen, but like, I remember how I told you, but you didn't know that like, um, cause you're, all your assignments are a hundred, a hundred, 99, 95, 80, whatever.
And so, but the test just bring up, there's so much of your total score. So you could get like, like I said, you could get 20, 15 assignments, a pluses, and then get like 20 on a test and your drops your overall grade. So you almost have to do like, Every time you get a 1F, you gotta do 10 A-plus assignments in order to balance out the percentage in your grade.
So, math... And you're already rising. You keep... You just bomb one test. I mean, it happens. It's life, right? But I don't... I mean, I wasn't really good at math, but... I'm a social studies teacher. Um... For some, I think there was a, she said that there was a glitch in, like, the system where, like, the grades just, like, dropped. Where the grades just, like, dropped out of nowhere.
Because they had to redo the system. I don't know how, I think the system's a little weird nowadays. And, um, all of us, like, one day, like, one day, you know, there was, like, a glitch in, like, the internet and stuff, like, the Wi-Fi and stuff. And all the students' grades, like, half the school had, like, zero. So all the kids were freaking out? Yeah. Ah!
that's funny that's all right though it's fine it's just the system that's yeah and the system he wants to jump he wants to get off the chair yeah but no i want to say you're i'm so proud of you you are doing so good in school are you proud of yourself For myself? Yeah. Are you proud of yourself? Yeah. That you're reading and writing at such a high level? Yeah. Dude. I got super happy about it.
So one day I just like, what if I write a book, you know? I know. And that computer. And you did. Where's the book? The book? I haven't finished it yet. See, because when you read the book, I can tell that when you're reading it to me, you're like, you're reading it to me because you wrote it yourself. So you almost know, you know what I mean?

Chapter 8: How can we support others in our communities?
I think you should let me read it to you so you can hear it through the reader's perspective. And also, I took a grandma's feedback when she said, like, I don't really understand, like, who these characters are. So then I put in more detailed, like, entries, like, yeah. Which is cool. Listen, all I'm saying is I don't think a lot of 11-year-olds are spending their spare time writing books.
That's all I'm saying. It's pretty incredible, in my opinion. I like that he's just chilling now instead of dropping on my forehead. Will you let me do it? Can I read? Can I read? Like a... Like a little bit of it? Yeah. Let me read the first page to you and see if you feel any different. All right. We'll go grab it. Where's it at? In front of millions of people. Oh, you don't... Okay.
That's why I asked. What do you want? Read the page. Let me read the page to you instead of you. Because you read the page to me and you go fast. It's just because I get really nervous. Why do you get nervous? Tell me about it. It's just because I don't know if... I really don't know why I'm nervous. I just really just want to get through it because I basically reread it 15 times.
People were like, oh, what are you doing on your computer? I'm doing a book based off this and that. And they were like, oh, can you read a little bit of it to me? I'm like... Sure. Do you not like reading it? Oh, no. I enjoy reading it.
Especially from like – it's just that when I'm reading it to somebody, I kind of stumble over my words because I'm like – I remember when I was reading it to grandma, I was stumbling over like a sentence. I was like – It's because you wrote it. I know how that is.
When you write – you have read that sentence so many times in your own head that by the time you get to it, you're just going through it. All right, well, if you don't want me to read a page to you, can you at least tell, like, what is the book about? The book is based off something, a warrior, a series that I really love. And I don't really think of publishing the book.
I just kind of want to keep it to myself. Yeah, yeah, I love it. And it's based off Aaron Hunter's Warrior Cat series. Oh. Instead, I just made my own clans and just kind of just set that down into like the little, and then I just mixed things up. So you pretty much like are getting inspiration from one. I got inspiration from Aaron Hunter's.

i that that's when i use google for like what are other words for nervous oh okay that makes sense yeah yeah it's only really the one word that i really used but yeah but i was thinking of putting pretty and i was like it's not really like so i then instead i put ravishing oh nice that makes sense yeah yeah different words yeah it makes sense he's gonna There he goes off the channel.
