E ancora: Isaac Babel', Alfred Döblin, John Dos Passos, Maksim Gor'kij, Joseph Roth, Arthur Schnitzler, Jack London.Bücherverbrennungen, furono chiamate queste cerimonie. Letteralmente: rogo di libri. A Berlino, nella Bebelplatz, che all'epoca si chiamava Opernplatz, Joseph Goebbels arringava una folla di 40 mila persone elencando, uno per uno, i nomi degli scrittori condannati a bruciare. Bebelplatz. La notte dei libri bruciati è anche il titolo del bel libro che Fabio Stassi ha dedicato a questo buio momento della storia europea.
