On this episode of the Character Outs podcast, I talk about some of the personality traits that I have as a result of growing up in a toxic family and being raised by a narcissistic mother. I rattle off a list of things that I have noticed about myself and discuss how my narcissistic mother exacerbated these traits. And as if I didn't feel abnormal enough because I came from a toxic family, I came to the realization that there are parts of my personality that do not look like the majority of the population. Ahhhh the gifts of the narcissistic mother just keep on giving. I also discuss some of the trauma responses that we can still carry into adult hood that can make us shut down. But our story does not end with a list of traits, trauma responses, our fucked-up childhood, or our incompetent mother. On this episode, I hope to make you feel less alone, remind you that you are not crazy and encourage you to embrace the parts of your personality that may be a bit quirky and feisty and to reign in the toxic parts that are not serving you.
