EU Withdraws AI Liability Directive After US Criticism

The move is viewed as a strategic effort to signal openness to investment and innovation, showing goodwill towards the US and prioritising competitiveness in the global AI landscape. It also comes after the adoption of the EU's AI Act, making the liability directive appear increasingly redundant. The Commission plans to focus on simplifying existing rules and effective implementation instead. They have identified 37 proposals to withdraw in total.
