He's currently awaiting his possible fight against extradition in what is described as a hellhole Dubai prison.
Chapter 2: What charges does the Irish state have against Daniel Kinahan?
Yeah.
A far cry from the life he's been leading, surely, over the last 10 years plus. And I say 10 years because I'm nearly sure that... Kinahan is in the United Arab Emirates almost exactly 10 years. I think it was the summer of 2016 that he and his brother Christopher Jr.
Chapter 3: When is Daniel Kinahan expected to be extradited to Ireland?
left Spain. They had initially in the aftermath of the Regency hotel attack stayed in Dublin for the funeral of David Byrne and then There were little sightings through selfie pictures mainly, one of which would suggest he was in England. I'm not really sure he ever went to England. Went back to Spain and they gathered their goods and chattels really at that point and headed out to Dubai.
By September of 2016, when there was a raid on the then MGN headquarters, premises in Port-au-Bonneuse, which was the boxing promotions club that Daniel Kinahan had founded. And there was the arrest of James Quinn for the murder of Gary Hutch.
Chapter 4: Why did it take so long to arrest Daniel Kinahan?
At that point, we could see that the intellectual rights from the company had moved out to Ras Al Khaimai, which is a free trade zone in the United Arab Emirates. We knew that Christy Kinahan Sr. had gone before them. Maybe perhaps around 2014-15, he's gone out
to the Emirates he is bedded down he's living between hotels in Dubai and the two boys go out there which keeps them at arm's length from the law and their enemies and from there they continue operations over 10 years and live in luxury beyond most people's wildest dreams.
There's the wedding in the summer of 2017, Daniel Kinahan's wedding, which the DEA are interested in because there's a gathering of heads of what is now known as the European super cartel, a cocaine conglomerate, which was controlling at least a third, if not a half of all cocaine being imported into Europe at that point. The boxing continues until that collapses.
The sanctions come in in 2022, but on he lives and reports come in all the time. He's in the gym. He's attending events in the evening. He's living quite openly and quite happily out there, despite the sanctions, as are others. It all starts to fall apart, of course, last year when Sean McGovern is eventually lifted.
Like such a significant event, but not covered by the world media in the same way that Daniel Kinahan did. his arrest has been.

Chapter 5: What conditions is Daniel Kinahan facing in Dubai's prison system?
McGovern kind of nearly went under the radar over the weekend at the end of my holidays, by the way. I was asked to do some interviews in Channel 4 and various places like that. And, you know, you mentioned Sean McGovern that he's back, that not only is he back, but he's pleaded guilty to significant charges here of directing a criminal organisation.
And his sentence hearing is actually due up next week, which is going to be a very interesting day to see what happens with him. But the Daniel Kinahan name, the arrest, it just blew up. It totally blows up, of course, while you're on holidays. But we'll discuss that at another time. We can discuss it. I mean, you'd swear I've had messages all over the weekend. Did I know this was happening?
Am I in cahoots with the guards? Yeah, because I mean... Am I in Dubai? I got asked a number of times. No, I'm not. Yeah. Yeah, this thing has been coming, this Daniel Kinahan arrest has been coming. You feel silly continuing to assure people that you believe there's confidence that he will be arrested, it's going to happen, because you've been saying that for quite a long time.
No, I mean, somebody texted me and said, she must be working with the guards. And then the next line I read was that the painstaking documentation for the extradition, I thought, no... If she is secretly working for the guards, they've got the wrong girl because she's not into painstaking documentation. No, it's just one of those things, obviously.
But yeah, he's in this prison, Dubai Central Prison, which is called, I think, Al-Aweer as well. So I actually spoke to a couple of people about this prison. I mean, Sean McGovern was held there. It becomes a cliche, every foreign prison is a hellhole prison. But by all accounts, it is a hellhole prison.
There isn't a graded prison system there for rich people or there isn't a difference, you know, which a lot of people presume that if you have money, you get special treatment, you won't get special treatment and it is a far, far cry from really the kind of multi-billion, multi-millionaire lifestyle he's been living in Dubai.
I think there is a, you know, the guards or the Irish state at least think that the fact that he's locked up in there means that he may not fight extradition as hard as he once might have because the conditions are so bad, there's so little privacy. Everything is very communal. You're not going to be in a cell on your own. Oh, I think he's going to fight his extradition.
I'd be surprised if he just rolls over. Well, so would I because the stakes are so high. So if you look at the extradition and what happens in Dubai's extradition proceedings, it isn't like Ireland where everything is open and clear. We're not going to get reports from court reporters who are there. Any hearings that are held are going to be held in secret.
Apparently they're held on Zoom, not even in person. And he can resist extradition on a number of grounds. The first one would be that there has to be an equivalent law in Dubai to what he's being charged with in Ireland. But I would, you know, so murder in Ireland is going to be... Well, he can argue that. He can argue that. I think all of that...

Chapter 6: How has Daniel Kinahan maintained his influence in boxing?
But there was these videos going out, selfies. Of course, his very good friend, Billy Joe Saunders, was training with him and supporting him. And the two of them were kind of lumbering around Marbella at night and jumping in and out of fountains. And like Fury was like this man mountain that he had really like was a guy, a human being who had let himself go.
go and probably fall into the depths of depression and addiction and etc. And you're just looking at him going, there's no way this guy is going to come back to peak performance. And he did. And it was probably the most extraordinary thing that Daniel Kinahan actually did. And maybe that's why the world of sport thought, this guy cannot possibly be anything but... you know, a boxing promoter.
Yeah, I mean, look, and there was a PR campaign. I mean, that's what you have to remember. There was full-time PR people. I mean, we know this, working 24 hours, like working full-time on cleaning Daniel Kinahan's reputation. He'd hired a number of ex-journalists who had this kind of media crisis management agency. And The solicitor's letters went to nearly all major media organizations.
He put out statements. He put out statements sometimes to the sports media. At some point, he did a podcast with James English, the podcaster that never appeared. So he had this whole campaign and it just muddied the waters just enough enough up until really the sanctions were laid by the US media. But before that, he had boxing promoters like Bob Arum speak on his behalf.
He had Frank Warren, I think, as well.
And he was in the company of extremely important politicians and others out in the Gulf in various locations.
Yeah, so... Look, there's no doubt it almost... He almost made it, if you want. He almost managed to move from one world to the other successfully. But the intervention of the Americans, I think, was really key to stopping that. And, you know, he's never...
since that day they stood up in Dublin Castle and sanctioned him and named him personally he's never looked like he was going to become get away from that reputation again I think The other thing to go back to is what I was saying there was all these rumours kind of over the last few years the other one of course was that Daniel Kinahan had become a Muslim
along with many of his family. Now that could be something that he could perhaps use within his extradition fight.

Chapter 7: What will be the future of the Kinahan cartel after his arrest?
He was sent to Bali. They basically said, pick a country, we're kicking you out. Because there was no warrant issued for him at that point. Well, there was no warrant that had gone through Dubai for them to extradite him directly to Spain. There was a warrant, obviously, for him in Spain.
So they kicked him out to Bali and the Spanish government contacted Bali and said there's a warrant out for him and Bali extradited him. He's currently actually in the Netherlands. He was extradited to the EU and he's in the Netherlands awaiting extradition again to Spain. So it's slightly different in that the Scottish authorities didn't go to the Dubai officials and say extradite him to us
He's presumably kicked out of Dubai to Bali in the first place in a way. And this happened with other members of that organization last year where they were being deported because they had run out of their rope. They had no residential permits. They weren't there legally and they were deported from Dubai and they were asked where they'd like to go. And some of them went to Turkey.
And was Stephen Lyons involved in that first round of it?
It was involved in that first round of arrests, not that first round of deportations. So I think Daniel Kinnan, as you said, he's had businesses over there, he's had property, he's had kids in school, all of that sort of stuff. It's going to be slightly different, but, you know, and... the detained in Dubai organization have a great insight into the legal system.
I would think Daze is probably a bit optimistic, but I don't think, we're not going to be sitting here in a year's time saying, when is Daniel Killian going to be extradited? I think he'll be gone forever. a lot quicker than Sean McGovern was.
Well, Miss Sterling has said that the cartel chief would, as a matter of course, have been incarcerated in the notorious Dubai Central Prison, also known as Al-Aweir, following his arrest. And she said that there's a lot has been a lot of pressure applied by Western countries on Dubai, which was accused of basically harboring international criminals.
And the UAE was suffering as a consequence of that. The UAE was constantly under threat that they were going to be placed on a financial blacklist. So it has been trying to clean up its reputation in that regard. And in return for doing so, the UAE has been signing treaties with various countries and extraditing a lot more people.
Yeah, and I think that it's inevitable he's coming back. I mean, it's interesting, the geopolitical aspect of it, because, of course, we've spoken many times about the connections the Kinahan cartel have to Iran and to Hezbollah. And obviously, a lot of that information, I think, comes from the American government themselves, and they're well aware of that.

Now, we don't know what's in it, but we can only imagine that would be in an effort to attribute the handles.

Yeah, so you could say, for example, randomly, just make it up, 2018, Nicola Tallon publishes an article in the Sunday World and somebody is on an encrypted phone saying, did you see what your one said about me today? Yeah. And all of that helps build the case that that handle is attributed to that individual.
Interesting when we know for a fact that the knife and bond phones were being used, because we've heard it during the Imre Arrakis hearings, but they were being used to direct a hitman to kill, in this case, James Mago Gately. That was in April of 2017. So Daniel Kinahan, at this point, and to go back to him and his lifestyle, he's out in He's out in Dubai.
Kiva Robinson has joined him out there, the former partner of Micah Kelly, the panda. A girl who has seen her partner, the father of her child, gunned down in front of her on the street some years previous.
Somebody who it was suggested was in a relationship with Daniel Kinahan and who denied it to such an extent she attempted to make complaints to press bodies to say that the media were endangering her life. but who subsequently followed him out to Dubai and then they arranged this big wedding.
