Culture 101

Peata Larkin leading charge to save music and community centre

14 Dec 2025

Description

Tamaki Makaurau contemporary artist, Peata Larkin is known for her work which often explores the intersection of pattern, spirituality and Maori identity. Her work is exhibited throughout the country, both on public display and adorning major buildings and internationally, as well as in collections. But her latest focus has been a series of works representing the elements; earth, air, fire and water. These have formed part of a fundraising initiative to secure the future of Kahui St David's music and community centre in Grafton. Peata Larkin speaks to Culture 101 about why she's leading the charge to save the creative space.
