Parenting styles in different cultures.Rita Pira grew up in a family from a Middle Eastern background with strict cultural rules and boundaries. Attending a regular local school in Chicago, Rita found it difficult to fit in when she was unable to socialise and enjoy the freedom other kids did. Making friends was hard and Rita soon found herself being brutally bullied on a daily basis. Rita's parents had very strict ideas around what was acceptable based on their Assyrian culture and this included what Rita should wear, how she should behave, that she should get married and have children as soon as possible and to ensure her husband was also Assyrian. This is Rita's story of what childhood was like in a suffocating environment and how she has managed to break free and live the life she has always dreamed of.
