Welcome to Difficult Conversations with Dr. Anthony Orsini.   Today, I am honored to have as my guest, Paul Falcone, who is widely considered and  expert on communication and human resources.  Paul is currently the Chief Human Resources Officer for the Motion Picture and Television Fund and former Head of HR for Nickelodeon. He is a best-selling author of a number of books, including one  we’ll be speaking  about today called, 101 Tough Conversations to Have With Employees:  A Manager’s Guide To Addressing Performance, Conduct, And Discipline Challenges. He’s also the creator of The Paul Falcone Workplace Leadership Series, which includes his latest book that was just released called, Workplace Ethics: Mastering Ethical Leadership and Sustaining a Moral Workplace. Paul’s a regular columnist at SHRM’s HR Magazine and a long-term instructor in UCLA’s Extension School of Business & Management.  We start with Paul sharing his story and we find out the importance of soft skills and building relationships. We learn things that have changed tremendously in medicine and business with having so many options these days, especially with the Gen Y and Gen Z’s.  Paul and Dr. Orsini talk about having the important trust factor. . Dr. Orsini  points out that medicine and business are so similar because we have to communicate.  Paul shares a great HR story and  advice to always go with your heart and when in doubt err on the side of compassion. We Discuss Paul's book, 101 Tough Conversations to Have With Employees. He also shares advice on what to say to an employee who is being harassed but is afraid to say anything to HR because their boss is going to find out.
